I wanted to make all three RES I have swim around more and get more exercise...they weren't inactive, but I assume wild turtles would be doing twice or three times the swimming a captive one does and getting more exercise. So I bought some ping pong balls. All the turtles chase them (of course thinking they are food) but they can't get a bite on them and the balls just float around. I only put them in a day or two each week.

This little one recently moved back into the large set up I have going. He is doing great and enjoying the large space. A little afriad of the balls still but he nips at them and chases once in awhile.

It's hard to get shots of them actually chasing it or biting but here is one a few minutes before he decided to start messing around with them...

Thanks for the ideas I honestly wouldn't have thought about that I wonder if that would work with a larger RES??

Yah the ping pong balls really work, I use it with my adult reses all the time they chase it for hours. Does anyone know of anything else for turtles to get excersise with?

Fish... that is if you feed them that. I find in a large tank and with some obstacles to slow the turtles down, the fish can do quite well. It's pretty fun to watch as well.:)

Id have to agree with fish. When i had my turtles along time ago they would chase after them for 30 mins at a time. If there are obstacles in the tank it makes it difficult for the turtles but eventually they get them.

You get 3 reses like mine at first they would eat the fish now they just swim around with the 11 goldfish in their pool, as if their friends, and the fish are getting bigger, and bigger in the spring I'm gunna have to put the fish in our outdoor pond cause they'll be taking up to much turtle space. But fish probably work for the normal turtle.

those cheep water frogs from walmart work well.o>

The trick with fish is nit offer too many. I find if you put in lots, they'll mow most of them down and keep a few for companionship. What I do is introduce a few at a time. This way it is always new to them, so they won't get bored and used to the fish.
