Hello all well my comp is down so I'll have my dad cheack in as to all your advice. Awhile ago i had made a post about my blood being gassy and was planning a vet trip. but was trying to put it off for a bit to wait for nicer weather... Well things have gotten stedily worse what i thought was only gas has turned into slight mouth gaping and there is a slight bit of mucus/fluid that i can see when she mouth gapes. Her temps are in the 90's it fluctuates a bit. and i mist her daily as we have 20% humidity in the house. I have a vet app today at 3:30 with Dr. Auger wish me luck if you have any ideas or suggestions i would greatly appericate it... Thank you

sounds like a Respiratory infection by your description. which the vet will be able to easily tell during your appointment.
Lack of heat , too much heat, and constant fluctuations in heat, as well as too low, too high humidity, can all cause a respiratory infection,.
Temps in the 90's sound a tad high, especially if thats ambient.
also, at 20% ambient humidity, depending on what your keeping it in, you would have to spray it atleast twice a day, heavily ...(probably even 3 times)
even in my caging with minimul ventilation, i spray for atleast a minute, sometimes two...with each cage and the humidity can go down quite a bit in this dry winter weather.

anyways, sounds like the vet will prescribe sound medication for the RI. and its in your best interest to get a fecal done while your there to check for internal parasites which is perhaps causing those gassy problems.

Goodluck.

Grant thank you for replying. the temp i stated is on one small side of the tank as a hot spot. the temps very from 74-75 and up i'll be getting a new and better enclosure for her within the next couple weeks though that will help to keep humidity up. I'm just so worried this snake is my baby. I'm just sick with worry and can't stop pacing waiting to go to the vets. Part of my problem is that all the care sheets i have read very a great deal on what proper temps are as well as what the humidity should be. could you please direct me to a care sheet that has all the needed info thank you. I have also looked for books specific to bloods but have yet to find any, if there is one could you please let me know the title and author.

In order to avoid humidity problems, I have my blood python on damp sphagnum moss, which I only have to mist once a week. She's shown no sign of RI, and her scales stay nice and smooth.

Sorry to hear :/ Make sure your vet runs both a fecal and a culture. My bet is your blood has a bacterial infection (which is causing the gas and gaping), I would definitely be suspicious of some sort of protozoal or bacterial infection. They can cause all of the forementioned problems, even cause symptoms of neurological and nervous system damage/distress.

Just an update on my Blood "Precious" we went to the vet and i have to say if anyone in the Ottawa area needs a vet Dr. Auger at blair animal hospital is so amazing, He really knows his stuff. She had a nasty bactiral infection, we also got a fecal as well. He tubed her and treated her and sent me home with some panacur. He did a full exame and sexed her for me, and the $$$ was very reasonable. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Auger. I have a huge thank you to Grant vg, Thank you so very much for talking to me today, I really appericate it. I think i would of gone through the roof with worrie if it were'nt for you.

Sincerely,

Wow, glad to hear things cleared up nicely laura lee!
What exactly did the vet prescribe for the bacteria infection, and what type of parasites did it have?
As well, what dosage did the vet reccomend you to use?

Thanks for any and all info.
