here's my latest addition....I love the indigo blue that can be seen in good light...I always thought they were plain black...

and the start of her enclosure...I'll be hot gluing many of the holes...there's too much ventilation..plus I'm going to add more natural looking furnishings. I'll post a pic when finished.

Awesome! I recently got a black light - they glow bright green. It was pretty neat. I have read that that's how they catch em in the wild.

i've wanted a scorp. for a long time but I held back thinking that they would be fairly inactive creatures...yah right!...this lil lady is a busy body...she'll chill from time to time but everytime i look in she's moved to a new spot. its cute the way they waddle and if my hands are in there she puts her claws up and wants to duke it out!lol

I am no expert, but the only emporers that I have seen that fat, were about to have babies.

Sorry to hijack the thread. My girl went missing in her borough(sp?) for like a month. She made it next to the heat pad. I knew she was ok because food would go missing. Well, I decided to change her housing and do some redecorating. She is huge. Even fatter than Eves. I thought that she might be preggo. I hope so, it would be kinda fun. I'll post pics later.

el prego?!...that would be a real treat...could the scorp. be over-fed?..it was housed with another female and male when I bought her...I'm not sure as to how they were fed but if they were fed all together perhaps she bullied the others and ate all the food?

I've seen emps look that fat when they're overfed and close to a moult. Mostly young ones. But then again, being an adult and being that big may also mean that she's prego.

now you guys got me all excited....is there any other signs for a pregnant scorp? I've noticed she's quite defensive....I don't know if this is common behaviour in an emperor but even if I near the tank she turns to face me with her claws up! I think I heard a hiss come out of her too....I could be mistaken though. Might that be a sign?

That is exactly how my pregnant emperor acts towards me, my other scorps I could, (not saying I do, just an example for laughs), throw at a wall and they wouldn't go into threat posture

Emps often do arrive gravid... they are usually collected from the wild in masses and shipped together in the same package... cha ching if you are a male scorp!. Then pet shops get them and often have 6 or more in the same tank... again... cha ching!

Its a virtual orgy in those 2 situations so if the females weren't already knocked up they often become that way :)

What is the gestation period? Any care sheets for babies just in case?

The gestation period ranges, could be 8 months, could be 18... I'm not sure the periods 100%, Dave will probably know.
