I have a beige rat with ruby eyes, and a white rat with pink eyes, now I have 6 rat pups left, and I took them out to see how big they were (after a fight with the mom, in which she took a chunk outta my knuckle, she is lunch when she is done breeding!)

There were 3 pink rats with pink eyes (their eyes weren't dark) and 1 pink rat with dark eyes (their eyes are not open yet).

Ok genetics people here comes my question! (no she was not pregnant when I got her!)

There is one black hooded rat, and one that is hooded but also has a broken black line down halfway it's back! WTF???? Where did those come from!?!?!?

how many litters has she had b4 this 1?
if this is her first litter with you then how do you know that she wasnt prego when you got her?

just some food for thought

i sold some grey rats aka russian blues to a friend and he bred them and he got all blues but some had red eys

We have had her for a month and a half, if she was preggo when we got her she would have had her kits long before the 16th. I am pretty sure it was her first litter, but she was a pet shop "fancy rat". So who knows, It just really shocked me when I pulled out 2 little kits that have BLACK on them!
lol

Both parents are carrying the albino gene?
I have 1.4 russian blues, all gave birth at the same time and out of 48 babies 47 were blue and one was pure white with red eyes.

See I don't know if the white one is an albino or a pink eyed white. I got it from the feeder bin and albinos and PEW are all together because pet stores don't know any better. She does have white on her, she is a specific breed, but I can't get to the website that has the pic and name of what kind of rat she is. But she does have white on her (belly and feet) and a white ticking over the beige.

I was hoping that if that was the case maybe someone in my group would give me a dumbo! lol

Different colours are recessive traits. Rats are like cornsnakes, they have been bred and mixed and matched you never know what the animal might be carrying in its genes. With rats you always end up with loads of surprises ;)

maybe, maybe a dumbo. That would be a REALLY nice surprise.......
oh the friggin brat (not the word I wanted to use) rat bit the crap outta me! Right on my second knuckle. And when she did it startled me so I jerked backwards......BIG MISTAKE. I now have a cut/bite that is about half an inch long!

needless to say when she is done breeding, she is going right to the snakes.....

We did the rubbermaid thing with our rats and used a suet(for wild birds) basked with hardware cloth around it so the food wouldn't just fall out!
We put the hardware cloth on top and keep it down with bolts...it's nice and tight, and they can't get out!
We are going to be getting another rubbermaid to put the bittey rat in and when we get our other rats to finally give birth (which if they don't by next month it's to the snakes to start over  ) I am going to add another female so I have two 1.2 colonies...

And maybe if I get a dumbo or interesting colord rats i might socialise them into pets......I really hate bitey rats........maybe get a few double rex (looks like hairless rats but have a soft fuzz over the body) and play with genetics...

LOL Oh no! And so it begins :p That's what happened to me...I began playing with my food. I used to have all sorts of colours and patterns of regular, rex, and double rex rats in my colonies, but eventually the rex disappeared until a friend gave me a bunch of his. I'm trying to turn my whole colony in to Orange/Hooded Orange rex rats and would like to add in some dumbos and eventually get orange dumbo rex rats :p Double rexes are weirdos... they look like they have disease when they first start losing patches of hair. The shorter final coat is nice though. I love my orange rats though :)

I know rex coat is co-dominant or dominant, but I don't know what the genetics behind the dumbo trait is?

I just think the dumbos are so cute, simply because they are different.
