Do I have to actually stick the UTH on the tank? Or is there a way that I can have it so it works, but not be permanently stuck on and unusable on any other tank?

Thx.

Just put it under the tank. There is no reason to ever stick them to anything. A good idea is raising the tank slightly on bottle caps, furniture end cap thingies or soem other way.

Exactly what marisa said. I did that, Once, completely ruined the UTH when I HAD to pull it off because I was switching cages.

I have a couple which I use for temporary heat. I just stuck them on an appropriate piece of plexiglass so I can use them where and when needed.

I actually raise the eclosure 2 inches with pieces of wood then put the heater on the surface below. Besides being able to move the heater whenever you like without tearing it off anything, I've also found that you don't have to put it on a dimmer this way either because it won't generate a hot spot much over 90F because of the heat lost in that 2 inch gap.

You can try sticking it on with electrical or duct tape instead of using the adhesive on the UTH.

Personally, I place a piece of aluminum foil over the exposed sticky area of the UTH, and neatly trim the edges. Aluminum is a great conductor of heat. After this I secure the UTH in place by placing a safe, (ceramic, asbestos, ect.,) heat absorbing pad/block between the UTH and the shelf the cage is sitting on.

This may not be the solution for every situation, but in standard aquarium on shelving setups it has never failed me yet.
