I have no clue it my new corn snake is a male or female. I think that you tell by 'probing' right? Can this be done at any age, and if so should it be done by a vet or is it something that can be done by anyone (aka me)

It takes practice to probe safely and accurately. It should be done by someone with experience. If you post a picture of the tail from a few angles, we should be able to give you a pretty good guess though. :)

Im pretty sure what tim wants is the underside of the tail from the Butt down. Basicly "snake porn"

I just put him in his home on Tues and gave his first meal on Thurs so I will probably wait a few days before I handle or snap any photos, but I will post them on this thread and if its not too much trouble that would be great if someone could help me

if you want to know for sure, take it to a good herp vet (or experienced breeder, maybe there is a show coming up near you?) and have them do it.......:) good luck.......I had my male "popped" (done when they are older) when it was younger told me it was a female, took him back to the same place, and was told it was a male.......but he showed me this time, and from the pics I seen......he is definitly a he......

Yup. From the vent to the tail... one from the bottom and one from the side should do. Whenver you get the pics up, let us know. :)

What phase of cornsnake is it? Just curious. :D

Hes (or now I am guessing possibly she) is an Anery A. I had to go into the cage as my heat lamp slid down onto the cover and melted part of it. I gently picked her up and took a couple of pics, here they are. Thanks for your help Tim! (and everyone else)

I am assuming from what I have read that this must be a female as the tail narrows quickly and is fairly short. But I also have no real comparison, as this is my first snake!

I would say female too but you know that probing is the only way to know 100% :) If you ever make the 3hr drive north to Winnipeg, I can probe her for you just to make sure. :D

Nice Anery btw. :)
