I have a male crestie, and was wondering... He really won't eat baby food and crestie diet from a dish, I have to do it by hand with a baby syringe. do they eat fruit? if so any particular kind? Do I have to mash it up?

Please give me an idea.

He eats crickets no problem, but won't really eat Mealies.. I want to make sure he gets a proper diet and diversity...

Please let me know..
Thanks,
:D

i used to feed my little guys with a syringe, but one day i just put it in a dish and they left it, so i kept doing it, and by day 3 they were eating on their own. but i would not let them go much longer than 3 days without food if they are babies. then they started to catch crix, which is fun when they are little b/c they have no coordination...good luck

i have given tiny pieces of cantelope, and apple, and pear, but you are not supoosed to give them citrus.

I use apricot as it has the highest natural calcium and i mix it with crested gecko diet and either blueberry or strawberry i also use mixed fruit and fruit salad baby foods as well. P.S. alot of the time it may not look like they are eating it but remember it is a luquid and it may not be visual. Thanks Doug.

well I have seen him eat it, but never that much. he is about 6-8 months now, has a VERY visible bulge, and i can usually trell if he eats it because you can see the tongue oimprints oin the dish. He is eating crickets,so cute to watch, but I know it isn't enough... so was wondering how you all do it, especially since you have to leave it and replace it every night.

so how much do you give? when i syringe feed him he usually only eats about1 - 1.5 ml. what is normal? he eats that in baby food/cgd mix and then usually about 3-4 crickets...

thanks for the help..

It sounds like he's getting enough to eat. You could try spoon feeding him so he gets used to seeing it in that form. It's not like he has a syringe in his cage... lol. If he just plain hates the stuff try dusting the crix in cgd and he'll get used to it.

my guys do not eat every day. i think yours will be fine, just give crix regularly and offer the fruit or babyfood mix on the days you do not give crix.

Just because you don't see them eat the baby food, it doesn't mean they aren't eating it. Baby Cresteds don't eat very much, so it's not likely that you'd notice any missing. Personally, I don't think the syringe feeding is necessary.
