what kind of snakes could comfortably live in a 30 gallon tank?

Cornsnake.
They're beautiful animals,usually easy to handle and fairly easy to keep.

blind snakes/worm snakes, colubrids such as hognose, garters/ribbons, maybe some sand boas? but it would have to be a small species

hognose snakes eat mice, sometimes it can be a little tricky to start them on pinkies as babies, mine didn't eat for 5 months when i got it but all i really had to do was put lizard maker on it and let him eat in the dark, now hes almost on hoppers and he'll eat it right when you put it in the cage. they are great snakes and can stay in a 30 gallon their whole life

Here's a couple links for corn snakes.
In my opinion they are one of the most enjoyable,low priced ,low maintenance reptiles available.
They come in a variety of striking patterns as shown in the second link.
Your tank size is just fine too.
Mice happen to be a part of their natural diet too,so you won't have to mark them with lizard or frog scent.

Quite a few venomous species fit in a 30 gal, but I woudn't recommend them. If you are asking what you can fit in a certain size, you aren't ready to keep hots IMHO.

And why is that question being brought up here? He never even said anything about keeping hots in the first place. I agree with Linds, if he's asking these types of quesation, he's not ready for hots, so they shouldn't even be suggested....

I don't believe that's accurate, I know of a few people that aren't ready for hots yet they feel they are. My old landlord was all set to get a spitting cobra before his wife laid down the law. He figured he was ready, even though he hadn't cared for a snake before. A petstore in here was ready to sell him one too.


and just because i said they would fit didn't mean i figured anyone should get one. I wouldn't suggest a hognose that is difficult to feed if it's not already on mice as a starter snake either.

i already have a corn and a Nelson's milksnake but i want another snake. and i'm not ready for hots yet.
