Congrats!!
I love that top one, is it an amel? (Still working on ID'ing corns here).

Yep that's my boy Havoc and he is an amel, and my girl Silver Sable (snow).

Thanks everyone, my fingers are crossed.

Cool! How long did you brumate for? Mine are still down until the end of the month.
Cheers,

Boid keeper- thanks, i did a slight cool for about 2 1/2 months. I brought them out a little early this year because it's staying quite warm in the basement. I'm hoping she was ready, time will tell. If not they'll have a go at it again.

Last year i didn't "cool" them down at all and she laid 11 (3 slug, I believe that's right) eggs. So i'm seeing if i give them a slight "cool down" if she will lay all fertile eggs.

Beautiful snakes! I love the amel, but they're both gorgeous. Good luck with them this year!

So.. will there be normals in there? Amel and albino are both recessive genes, right? So will you have normals possibly het for amel and albino, or will you end up with a mix of normals, albinos, amels.... what? They're beautiful!

Oops, my mistake. Replace all the 'albino' with 'snow'. Don't mind me, I'm tired this week!

Oliverian- I'm not good with the whole genetics thing. Last year all the baby snakes came out amel. We were hoping for a mixture of possible normal, snow, & amel. I was told the male was amel het snow. I don't know, maybe this year will be different.

Congrats on the breeding - gorgeous snakes.

On the genetics an amel to a snow will produce all amels that are het for anery (the snow is actually homozygous for amel and anery). Because both animals are amels you would not produce any normals from this breeding.

If the amel male is het for snow you would expect half the babies to be snows, so if all those from last year were amel it is very unlikely he is het for anery (the other part of snow). I bet the babies from last year were gorgeous though - your amel male is very bright,

Congrats again and thanks for sharing the photos,

Thanks Vanderkm, I'm SOOOO bad when it comes to genetics. It all sounds like a foreign language to me. You did a great break down for me, though.

I thought it was strange last year when all the babies came out amel. I was at least expecting some snows (everytime a head popped out i was like "what is it going to be amel or snow). Oh well as long as their healthy, I'm happy.

I've got a question that may have to do with the genetics. I have my first corn snake, and I really want a second. "Cliff," is a beautiful Anery A, and I am going to take him to a vet to be checked for mites and whatnot (haven't seen any) and and to see if I can find out his sex. If I get a second, will different morphs affect breeding. I also have a lot to learn about breeding still, but I am eager to learn as much as possible about these snakes, and I would like to have it as an option (own a male and female) in the future. As a sidenote, would it be smarter to order from South Mountain than any other site or even a petstore?
If anyone can help I would appreciate it, I could use help understanding the differences between the different corns, Thanks!

I'm looking at either a miami or a reverse okeetee. Any insight on the breeding outcome of either?

Breeding an anery A to either a miami (which is genetically a normal except that it has been selected for specific ground and saddle tones) or an amelanistic (which is what a reverse okeetee is) will result in all normal appearing corns that will be het for either anery A from the miami breeding, or from the amelanisitic they will be het for both Anery A and amelanistic (het for both is the same as het for snow). This could be different if any of the parents are het for either anery or amel. Normal is the dominant gene. Sorry for a rushed response (at work now) but check out Cranwill's (site supporter) web page for a brief genetics tutorial. I can post some other reference pages later today.
