dude, learn how to spell. on the front page there is atleast 5 spelling mistakes alone. and why is every link just to other caresheets such as the ones from the N.E.R.D website?
also why do you make a site without good caresheets? you can't wait until the next morning to find good ones?

It hardly takes a large amount of time to spell and make your sentences coherent. Just stop rushing, it isn't like you are writing anything decent on that site anyways. I don't usually like to be mean but when people try to act professional but do it in the utmost half-assed way they don't deserve me biting my tongue.

o and the reson that there links to sites and not me copying the text onto my site is becos of copyright, ill have to send a e-mail to every site asking if i can use there care sheet.

I also hope you have permission by NERD to be making a page that completely relies on THEIR work. Dear God if you are going to take someone elses work then don't pass the site off as your own for all you are doing right now is making a pointless and poorly created middle-man.
um.. sorry but I have to second that. (talking about SaIiLdVaEnR's first post :)) also your web design needs some work, the care sheet button is too small and it's just a blank page with a few words. I know you wanted to show someone but wait untill it's finished. Or at least say it isen't.

01-10-04, 11:33 PM
Your site is a middle-man, it shows nothing of itself at all because all it is is someone elses work. Why would we choose your site over NERD's site anyways? They can spell, they make good caresheets, they do not rely on others' work. Much unlike yourself.

"wellcome, i started this site due to not being albe to find anny good care shets for snakes or none atall!!!!! so i started this, this site has (soon) a care sheet for lots of snakes that are cept,"
Very professional work. If you are going to advertise for people to come to the site then try to make it respectable and not a copy or make it seem as though written by a recent ESL immigrant or child. The last sentence isn't even finished for god's sake. How long does it take to finish a sentence? Although, it is not like anyone can read it anyways.
man..... had a bad day? :D

Good work... just needs a few little spell checks and I think your best bet is to read some books and some online caresheets. Take the time to create your own in your OWN Words :) That way you can actually be recognized for your work, and YOUR Work only :) I hope this helps you out. Good luck on the new project!
Remember, DONT rush it :)
(sorry I dident know RachelS post got stuck in there)
I agree their was no effort put in what so ever. plus if you cant find good snake caresheets well... I dont wanna know where your head is! :) :)
just one quick usefull tip for you.. take the time to learn HTML. it works so much better than the "site builder" that you used.

Another way to do things half-assed.
wellit would be dirrent it was JAVA or something but its not. it's very easy I havent done it in over a year but a basic page is.
HTML
HEAD
TITLE my crappy page /TITLE
/HEAD
BODY
BR
BR
CENTER
hello
/CENTER
/BODY
/HTML
put it in note pad, add the <> things to the front and back off all the bold words save it as a .html file and open it in IE. I dident test it so i dont know if it works but it should. :)

Hey..guys..what ever happened to encouragement? Do you think we got it all right the first time on this site? For some of us, and i know i fit this bill...spelling is terrible. Yes, this site has some spelling mistakes. As well, i realize that alot of the caresheets point directly to Nerd....guess what...so did most of them on this site in the beginning. We are bashing someone who probably has limited skills at websites...perhaps theyre first. We have all done something for the first time and screwed up...but there is no need to be nasty. Take it for what its worth. Its a new site, a dream someone had, and they are putting time and effort into it. No need to bash, lets give good critisism and help them to advance from there.
I think you are making a good stab at this site. I wish you the best of luck with it and hope it grows for you. Like several others have stated, take your time, read and re-read. Let spell check become your best friend. Caresheets in your own words are the way to go. Just don't copy..that will get you into all sorts of trouble. Make sure to give us updates as you change things around...keep up the good work :)

shane, no offense, but it isn't that tough to spell a simple word such as ''able''. i did encourage him, i gave him some GREAT constructive criticism. whats the point of making a website if it's going to be filled with errors. would you trust someone who can spell the word able, or who can't spell it. theres tons of links to care sheets out there, search almost any snake on google and youll come up with a bunch of things, theres really no reason to make a site like that guy made anyways since you can search it on google in 2seconds

I'm sorry, but I disagree. Having one single repository for caresheets, even if they are just links to other sites, would be most welcome. The problem with search engines is filtering through all the CRAP that is out there. However, I will concur with a few negative points that have been been brought up as well, and I do mean this constructively:
snake_goth, your spelling and grammar is absolutely atrocious, and I think you know this already. Reading some of your posts gives me a headache, and when you make a website that you want to be taken seriously, it would be a good idea to either A) Hire someone to proofread your text or B) Get someone else to write it for you. You will not be taken seriously the way the page is now, I'm sorry to say.
However, don't listen to people about the HTML builder. That's just a bunch of elitist crap, and if anyone on this board wants to criticize you for using a template, I'll personally challenge them to an HTML match. Ignore it. The template you selected looks good, and that's all that counts.
The last and MOST IMPORTANT advice I can give you is this - email the folks at NERD and get their permission to use their care sheets. Don't ruffle anyone's feathers if you don't have to. :)
Hope this helps. You have a pretty good start.

I would recommend NOT going to this site, it is just a home for pop-up ads and spyware. God I love firewalls and detectioin software!

snake_goth,
Although I applaud your enthusiasm and your efforts, I am afraid I have to agree with most. If I was looking for a caresheet, why would I go from point A to point Z and THEN to point B.
The point being, your site will turn out to be nothing but a links page, and in the funky world we know as the internet, even linking to a site, pretty much requires permission. Riding on the backs of someone else's efforts is just not cool. You would be better off going for your original content based on your herp experiences and your animals, keeping in mind that you want t bring something useful to the hobby. Building a caresheet that may provide erroneous information, can be just as bad as copyright infringements so be careful.
A few years back, I was a member of an offroad club here in Ottawa and I was put to task to change their crappy little 1 page site into a place that was worthy of a visit. Well despite the fact that I am no longer involved in this site, they have stuck with my finalized design, graphics and structure. Only the current events have changed. Pop by if you like and take a peek http://ovo.ca/. Although you will no longer find accreditation on this site as my design, I am still very much in possession of ALL the revisions that were made over the three years it took to build.
The point is don't give up, don't take this as bashing, keep working at it, never be afraid to ask for opinions and help, and it will pay off in the long run. Best of luck to you.
Cheers
Jim
Everyone's had a lot of good criticism for your to work with, I have a little more to add on one point that was mentioned by someone. If you do choose to write your own caresheet in your own words, it is important that you are experienced with that animal, not just researching around other caresheets (most caresheets out there have a great degree of inaccuracy to them). There is nothing wrong with having a site that links to other people's caresheets (of course with their permission). In fact it can be quite helpful for people to just have all the caresheets at a single site instead of having to sift through the search engines, especially if you provide several caresheets for each animal. It will be enough of a challenge simply trying to find caresheets that are accurate enough.

boa's
python's
should be:
boas
pythons
Boa's is possesive. Example: My boa's cage is clean.
I'm an english major so I'm nit picky when it comes to things of this sort.

Hey man thats just rude if you ask me. At least this person is trying to learn, how are you going to learn if you dont try it out for yourself? I'd like to see you make a website, can you do better?
Give them a break and keep these kinds of statements to yourself.
Hmmm maybe they should just pay to have their animals looked after too, that would be easier now wouldnt it Clarke?????

http://www.geocities.com/caresheetsrus just updated it all done with html o and nerd sed it was ok, still w8ing for some of the others.
cool looks better but, you have to use spell check please it isen't that hard I cant spell worth a damn, but it's not hard to copy and paste text into word and use spell check. it would make your site a 1,000,000 times better. :)

Its weird how you are from England and you can't spell properly...I am not too great at spelling myself but they are lots of small little words that you can't spell...you should definitely work on that ;) You do not want anyone to go on it and find a spelling error...that is not very professional...:) Nice site btw ;)
their is still more. you have more than one page ya know. ;)

Everyone has problems with spelling and grammar, unless you are 70+ years of age with many degrees in english literature and such.

"Everyone has problems with spelling and grammar, unless you are 70+ years of age with many degrees in english literature and such"
True but there is a line where its understandable and its so hard to understand you just dont read it.
Just run it though spell check a few times and read it over a bunch of times and keep the links alive
SaIiLdVaEnR
01-15-04, 07:10 PM
Indeed, that is fair, there is a line between understandable and incoherent. A spell check would work fine, try writing everything out in Word or another program with a spellcheck and once it has worked its magic then post it on the website.

My two cents...
- Dark blue letters on a black background are hard to read.
- You need an image or something on your first page
- Think about using the < H1 ><H1>headline</H1> </ H1>tags to make your links bigger/more visible... heck, it's easy to make a little JPG with the word "Pythons" on it. :)
- Check out http://www.annabella.net/html.html for some HTML tips
- Keep working at it.... it will only get better

Well, that's up to you.... Go to a lot of web pages and make notes on what you like, what you don't like and what could work on your site. Then I would suggest drawing your web page on paper and working hard at getting it right in HTML. It takes hours, man. But I'm sure you'll be 300x more proud of your site if you do the above.... :)
If you want any help, let me know. I'm full of a lot of things... especially ideas. :D
