View Full Version : cleaning tank carpets?????
Hi everyone...I just switched all my leopard gecko tanks from sand to an indoor/outdoor carpet.
I have been picking out their poop so far and understand it has to be replaced every few months but....
What is the best way to clean/disinfect the carpet and how frequently should I do this?
Any help would be appreciated!!
Thanks in advance!
We clean our carpets at least once a week, twice if heavily soiled and we use scalding hot water and rinse to the point of paranoia. Now about once a month, it's probably a good idea to use some vineagar in a spray bottle and spray it down heavily, let it sit for about 15 minutes, then hang it up and rinse heavily with hot water. We have one of those hand held shower heads which are worth their weight in gold to do this job.
Good luck and I hope this helps
Tay
Thanks Tay.....
Is that straight vinegar you use or a diluted amount?
Thanks

I put the turf into a big tub with some soapy water and add a little bleach, about 1% or so. I let it sit...then rinse really well in the shower or outside with the hose. I hang it to dry so it helps to have at least two pieces for alternating.
Lamanna,
I mix it about half and half, but there's no danger in using it straight.
I would have to agree with Big Mike, that it is good to have two pieces for alternating, so while you're waiting on one to dry you can use the other.

If your leos are potty trained...hehehe :p...then you only actually have to wash the carpet 1-2 times a year. Just replace the poopy area with a square of papertowel as needed :)
that linds just wants to potty train everyone
lol
but true they do go in just one area making clean up easy
LOL hahahahaha that was to funny
Thanks to everyone who helped out.....carpets are cleaned and dried! Look great!
Still trying to potty train my leos though. Hard to get all to go in one place. LOL
Thanks again!
