The snakes are in rubbermaids, inside styros. The styros are in the closet off of my office. There is no heater in the office and the floor in the closet is very cold. I adjust the temp by placing a towel in front of the door if it gets too warm, or moving it if it gets too cold. I also have a few styro lids stacked under the bottom styro to lift it off the floor. The higher I move them up the warmer the get.

This is how I monitor the temps. There is a probe in each of the styros right in the middle of the rubbermaids.

Thanks for looking,

Yikes! I hate degrees C for herp work.
I'd switch the setting to Fahrenheit. There are almost 2 degrees F for every C degree....You'll get higher resolution if you read in F. It will give you a better idea of where you are.
Of course it doesn't change the accuracy at all..
Those are plus/ minus 1 C (2 F) units. Almost all of the digital consumer grade are the same accuracy...
Most of them are actually better than the spec...You can check them using the ice bath technique. fill a glass with crushed ice and water...wrap a towel around it to help reduce the rate of thaw...
the thermometer should read 32F or slightly more....(the freezing point of water)

Funny you should methion the F C thing. For all other temps with regards to herps I use F. But I've always been more comfortalble with C on the colder end of things because I know what 10 degrees C feels like.
I switched to F and now my snakes are at 54.2. As long as I don't see it go down to 45F I won't worry.
Thanks,
Trevor

Trev, Do you think it is necessary to worry about the temps changing in your closet by a few degrees. Would it hurt the etb's if it went down to 45°C?

A few degrees no, but during the day when we are at work if it gets too cold they could easily drop to below 45.
As for an ETB I don't think it would be wise to go below 70 for too long.

Trevor

Thanks for sharing the photos - nice to see how other people have theirs set up. So are they in syrofoam boxes to keep the temp a bit warmer than it is in the room, or to stabilize the temps a bit from or just for convenience to keep them together?

Trevor, nice wallpaper.
HELLO! It's boarder, duh. Don't bust my chops about it man it was there when I moved in.

Both. The styros stop them from getting too cold while in the closet from the cold floor and they help keep them from getting too hot when the air temperature outside the closet in the office is too warm. The cooler helps keep things stable with no abrupte temperature changes.

Marc,

Those are colubrids in those styros. They're not BCI coffines.lol
I started brumating them on Dec 1. They will come up Feb 1st.
When I do try BCI next year I won't be cooling them at all. I'll be following the Jeff Rone model. Males can be 18 months and 4'. Females at 6' are a good size to start with. They also put their weight back on much faster than a 10' 40lbs boa.
