Hey Guys n' Gals
I have a question about Hard water
I live out in the country so our water comes from a well Therefore it contains alot of hard water minerals I was just wondering if this is going to have adverse effects on my reptiles, especially the ones that osmosify water through their skin ?
I'm not sure exaclty the mienrals and in what concentrations are in your water, therefore I cannot rtell you if your water in particular is safe, but alot of well water you have to be very careful with. Reptiles are not as susceptable to these as amphibians are. Amphibians should never use well/tap water since they breathe all the chemicals and minerals through their skin, they should have filtered or spring water.

jeeze girl your everywhere
I know you cant put a price on herp happiness but spring water is just another expence would distillation be an alternative my red eyes have not suffered any ill effects but I have lost a veild
Distilled water would be fine. I agree spring water can be a bit costly, I just run my tap water through the Brita filter before I use it for my animals.
you can buy reptile safe water from t-rex but it's costly i think linds idea for the britta water would work better
IMO all those additives to make your water "safe for herps" etc is jsut a bunch of poop and a waste of money. Just more "stuff" they invent to drain your pockets.

there is also a reptile water conditioner sold many places, similar to water conditioners for fish

If you bring a sample of your water to your local municipality testing facility you can get a test done...fairly cheap too, and they can give you a break down or the trace elements in your well. From there you can get a better idea of different minerals etc are in the water and this you can use to determine the safeness of providing it to your animals.....or hey, buy a cheap Canadian Tire inline system.....or like Linds said a Britta!
