Hello everyone. I have a question. My 6ft beatiful baby is the pickiest (*SP) eater I have ever seen we have had her for a year and tryed many different rodents ie. rats (S,M,L) she took one and then wouldnt again. Mice (L) has to be white eats 5 every week to two weeks. She took two hamsters that my cat got ahold of wont eat them again. I dont know what else we have tried everything from just killed prey to alive. but all she will eat is those small white has to be white mice. she is huge I know she can take more. she is only 2 years old I just dont get it got any Ideas any of them is much appriciated!!!!

Thank you so much :D

I would have to say at least she's eating. If she will only take 5 and that's it perhaps that's all she wants. Sounds like you've tried what you can. Again, at least she's eating and if she wanted more than 5 she would take them. They don't have to eat rats. It's more of a convenience for the owner to get them on rats (cheaper, larger, etc).

Have you tried a small white rat that is scented with a mouse? You can give a mouse a cut on the head, and smear the "insides" on the rat.

You could also try thawing a small white rat out in dirty mouse bedding.

You've got a 6ft. ball that is only two years old and is a mouse eater? Something doesn't sound right here...

I'm going to go with mykee on this one, and would like to see some pics of this ball

Also, rats are more nutritious then mice. One large rat is much better then five adult mice. I would strongly advice against feeding your snake wild rodents that your cat has caught. Who knows what the rodent was eating.

Me too, I have doubts on the size of your bp.

How embarrasing, having someone question the size of your balls

Hold on one cotton-pickin' minute! 1. Your questions were answered by a FEW people AND intelligently if I may add, and 2. NO ONE laughed at you, we're just a bit suspect of your claim. Most of us know that 6ft. balls are few and far between, let alone a 2 year old mouse-eater. I suppose a pic will clear everything up though..........

Yeah I tried my best to answer your question and I gave you a suggestion as to how you might try and get your girl on rats.

At least you could have left me out of your freak out! dang.

Anyways you should try the tips, she will switch eventually!

I find that heavily scenting with excrement can be more effective than using blood/brains. For this I refrain from cleaning the mouse water bottle, they climb all over it and get a gross stinky layer of urine and poop which I just wipe all over the rat when it comes to feeding time. If all else fails, it isn't unheard of that a ball will be a mouse-feeder for their lives. As long as your snake eats sometimes, and maintains a decent weight, there is really nothing to worry about. I have one ball here that just came off a 1 year 6 day fast that took 4 meals before going back off feed. He looks great and is otherwise perfectly healthy, he is just being the efficient animal he is - only eating what he needs, which is certianly not most people's ideas of enough, but he knows what is best ;)

Very true 6' balls are a very rare find, however adult balls that are stuck on mice are not that uncommon ;) Balls didn't earn the reputation as picky feeders for nothing :p

What I meant was that it's hard enough to find a 6 ft. ball period. BUT when the alleged ball is a mouse-eater, those odds are greatly decreased.

Hey Linds - I just want to make sure I see that six foot ball python! BTW, how did you edit your post without the edit showing? Is that part of a Moderator's special bag of tricks?

Alli, nice looking snake, but that pic doesn't 'clear up' anything. There is nothing to reference the size of the snake in the pic. That snake could be 2 ft. Glad you took the great advice regarding the mouse/rat problem, maybe now that the snake is on rats, it can continue to grow..
