General rule of thumb is whatever its girth at it thickest point in its body is, the same girth or up to 1.5 times that girth prey should be fed. I like the same girth prey & will feed 2-3 items. If I go with 1.5 the girth size prey I'll only feed 1 prey item, depending on the snake of course there are exceptions to every rule. This can be rats, mice, rabbits, degus or whatever rodent you choose. People will feed chicks because they are cheaper, but they make your snakes really rank & IMHO aren't worth the savings, plus mammals are far cleaner than any bird will ever be. Mark

Our largest corns eat small rats (one a week). Same snakes will take 2-3 adult mice for a change.

My big female anery will eat small rats too. They are just slightly larger than her largest girth.

thanks folks.

To clarify, the reason I asked, is so I know ahead of time what I will be needing to buy for him. Some things are not available here, so it's better to be prepared with knowing where I will need to buy his food :)

Hey guys just thought to let you know.... Today i wanted to feed my snake but i had no mice so.. i took a pice of meat cut it out as if it was a pinky (with leggs and a tail) and dipped it into a raw egg.. I shaked the meat a little as if it was real and me Cal King snake ate it with a big apetaite! But i am concern if its actually can make a snake seack cause of a change of type of food or not or any other reason? Thanks every 1 :)

lol if you were concerned you wouldnt have done it. It's not like your snakes couldnt wait for another week or two for a proper meal.

As far as making your snake sick though, probably not in the short term. Long term that meal is missing one very important nuitrent, calcium, and I'm sure a lot of other things.

Alex, if you can't afford to give your snakes a PROPER diet, get rid of the snakes. You shouldn't be owning them.

My adult corns get 2 LARGE mice (easily double their girth) every feeding. If I have weaned rats available, that's what they get.
