Just wondered if any of you had experienced quoting the wrong price on a gecko to a customer -- and if you did, how did you resolve the situation? Did you give the gecko to the customer at the originally quoted price?
Even if you haven't experienced it, how do you think you would handle it? What would be the biggest difference in price that you'd let "slide"?

Thanks for any help you can give, feel free to email me your responses if you don't want to post them on here -- clownfishie07@yahoo.ca

Well, I have not experienced this myself but...if I did quote someone a price than that is what I would charge. If u go around constantly changing prices, after u have given a quote, u'll end up with a few upset customers, if they even make the buy at all.
Now, there are some circumstances where a limited number of a certain morph will be produced, and the price will be affected by that. BUt, make sure the customer knows that, U can say that if fewer than we expect are produced, then the price will rise, or if we produce more, then the price will be lower.
But bottom line...if u quote a price, then thats the price u sell for!

Thanks Shawn, those are my thoughts too...
In this case, it was a price quoted on a specific gecko, not just on a morph in general -- so I think that it's pretty clear that the original price should be honored -- keep the customer happy, and coming back for more (hopefully!) :)

I myself am not a breeder.. but proper buisness ethics would say you honour your quote... a quote is a quote. its the persons fault for quoting the wrong price... now the only exception to this would be a disclaimer saying that this is a quote based on current market patterns and will be honourd for say 48 hours or something.. then you have the right to change the quote affterwards.... thats my 2 cents....

What I say I back up, if I make a mistake I absorb it. If the customer is overcharged accidently I return all money and let them keep the animal. Never lost a customer this way.

Did you think it was an awfully low price and did the breeder possibly not convert from Canadian to US dollars properly just a few thoughts on the matter....

Thanks for your thoughts guys...

ggg In this case, both the breeder and the customer are located in canada, and all prices are in canadian funds. The price didn't seem too unreasonable -- a little on the low side maybe, but not so off that it just didn't seem right at all... the price quoted was $500 for a hypo tang with a carrot-tail, and the actual price is $700...

A hypo tang with a carrot-tail for $700 is a deal in its own! The price of $500 seems low, if you really want the gecko and you adn the breeders wish to to work out this comprimise I would suggest that you both meet int he middle and settle on a price of $600.00 for the gecko :)

At $600.00 it is a GREAT price for you and the breeder isn't losing a considerable amount and both parties can walk away happy:)

Whatever happened to $35.00 nice looking Leopard Geckos?
Reptile Marketing LOL

Good luck I am confident that two Canadian herpers can work this out in a positive manner....

Hi ggg,

LOL -- well, $700 was definitely out of my price range. I do agree that $500 was a deal though, but it still seemed like a lot to me considering that I had started out planning to spend around $300! I just couldn't resist this girl though, she was so pretty -- I knew that I'd find the money somewhere, even if I had to not eat for a couple of weeks... hehe :)

You'll be happy to know that the issue has been resolved though -- we did indeed reach a compromise :) So if all works out well at the PC show in a couple of weeks, and the girl actually ends up being a girl (apparently the breeder is having a few doubts about this after taking a look at her yesterday), she'll be coming home with me :D I can't wait!

If anyone is interested, here's the little beauty herself :) I found out last night that this pic is actually over a month old, so it sounds like she's even more gorgeous now! Almost double the size, and no pattern left at all...

Whatcha think?? :)

hmm...It does look like a male to me. Just the head shape, and tail make me think that...but its still young, so it could still be a girl.
Awesome gecko! I would definitely give 700 for one of that quality!
"His" (incase u don't want to mentionthe name here, but I do know who the breeder is, all his babies have the same kind of look to them :)) geckos are all stunners! I hope to pick a female C-tail from him in September too! if I have the $$$ this time, lol.
Hope it works out for ya

LOL Shawn :) Well, I'M keeping my fingers crossed that she's a she, and not a he! She's sure awesome looking :) If she turns out to be a boy, I'm going to be very disappointed! They might have something else that I like if this one doesn't work out ... it'll be hard to like something else after this one though!
He said that this pic is actually a month old -- and that she's almost doubled in size now! And of course that she looks even better than she does in this pic ;) I can't wait to see her in person -- even if she does end up being a male :(
Ohh, and if you're going to be at the show, you'd better not get there before me and buy anything *grin* -- just in case she's a boy, and I have to look at the other ones that're available! :p
I'm going to be soooooo absolutely completely broke after doing this. I must be nuts! LOL -- certifiable even... ah well :) I admit I'm an addict -- that's the first step, right? ;) Hehe...
If they don't have anything else that I like though, my backup plan is to check out what Urban Gecko has.... definitely pricey, but great bloodlines even if I can't afford the top of the line girls. I can still get a really nice one in the same price range as the "girl" from the first place...

Will you be at the show then? I'm going to be there bright and early, they're holding her for me until 10... I'm hoping to be there between 9-9:30. I know you can sometimes get better deals later in the day, but I like to get there nice and early so all the good stuff is still there :)

O ya, I'll be there! I am likely going to be vending as well, so I'll be there REALLY early! I'll make sure that he leaves that one for u to check out before I buy any tho :) I talked to Carig (urban gecko) and he told me that he won't be able to make this show, which is too bad :(
Should be a good show tho!
See ya there

Oh cool, you're going to have a table? I'll definitely have to come around and say hi :)

He's holding that one for me until 10 oclock, so you wouldn't be able to buy her until after then anyways -- and I don't think that you'd want her if she turned out to be a boy anyhow, right? WHich is the only way that you might've got her -- hehe :) Actually, after some thought I think that I'll be buying her either way -- I'm still hoping that she's a girl, but if she's a boy then I'm just going to bite the bullet and take "him"... too awesome of a leo to pass up, I'll figure something out as far as my tang breeding group plans go! LOL... Oie... if he ends up being a boy, I'm going to have to get him at least one girlfriend who's worthy of his handsome self ;) More money -- yippee :p

*Grins* -- but like I said, you're not allowed to buy anything from them until I get first pick! LOL .... So keep your money in your pocket where it belongs until I get there :p ;) Well, you can buy all the males you want, and hatchlings -- but you have to leave the females there for me to look at :) Hehe...

Yeah, he won't be there. I don't think that I've seen him at ANY of the shows that I've been too actually... which is 4 now, soon to be 5... but I've been talking to him, and he says that his next batch of girls will be ready mid to late September, which is just around the same time -- so he's going to send me pics and stuff... I can't wait to see them, his leos are soooooooooo awesome :)

Hey all,

Just wanted to give ya a quick update... My "girl" is definitely a boy -- ah well, he's a very handsome devil, so I can't complain :) I'll be picking him up at the show on the 15th -- I can't wait! :) Here's an updated pic of him:

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid30/p6b04b4534eb42fbc5a58e2481981fd5f/fd4f301e.jpg

Pretty awesome, eh? :) He's sure grown! And I think that he's got even more carrot in his carrot tail now :D I'm so excited about getting him... and about getting him a girlfriend, as soon as I recover from making myself broke buying him... hehe :) I still plan on getting there as soon as the show opens though Shawn, so don't even think about buying any of their girls before I get there ;) :p

It's going to be a long 1.5 weeks waiting for the show!

Hmm...I don't know if I'll be able to control myself! All his girls may just end up being sold before the show even starts, lol-I'll be lucky if I have enought $$$ to buy 1 or 2.
Anyway, its looking like its going to be one heck of a show, see ya there.

Clownfishie

tee hee.... NEVER!!! :D

We WILL get all non-lizard people so addicted that they have to find themselves a bigger place to live just to keep them all.... hehe ;)

*Laughs* -- and that's seriously one of my big reasons for wanting to get into a bigger place -- more room for more herps ;) And of course the fact that I want to get a puppy and can't get one while we're living here has something to do with it too ;)
