Hognose Question

Something has been bugging me now, for a couple of months. Never did get to the bottom of it and I'm hoping that someone here can finally explain it to me.

I originally decided to get a snake last July/August. I went to what was supposed to be a reputable breeder and was offered a hognose that had just hatched. I was assured that the breeder would make sure it was healthy and feeding before I was allowed to bring it home, so that I would have no major problems.

I paid a 10% deposit and waited... and waitied... and waited. Acouple of times I contacted the breeder, to be told that the hatchlings were being difficult - not feeding independently.

Anyway, by December I gave up and cancelled the snake. Unfortunately I lost the deposit but...

Thoughts, please???

I dont understand what your question is, or why you cancelled.

If you want to know if she was being truthfull, then yes, it does take a bit of work to get hatchlings started, especially hognose.

When I went to see about a snake I explained that I wanted an EASY feeder because I was so new to the hobby. I was assured that a very young hognose would NOT be difficult to feed. Having a handicapped child to take care of, I wanted a young, self-feeding snake that was at an age where it would feed unaided. I was assured that within a few weeks the hognose would do this.

I cancelled because, each time I spoke to the breeder he said that they were having to 'force-feed' the snakes and that I could not have one yet. This conversation went on for four months. All he had to do was say 'this snake is not suitable for your needs, why not try X instead.' I did not ask for a hognose originally - I asked him what he thought would be a good snake to suit my needs. He suggested the hognose.

corns could be a good snake, i hear that kings are monsters when it comes to feeding time too, but i think you already have on, unless i have you confused with some on else.

Yes, I have a King and she is feeding very well. I couldn't wish for a better first snake.
