Was getting some photos of the adults while they were slowed down from brumation and thought I would share a couple of this guy. Not sure what species he is (or whether he is a hybrid) but he is a very pretty snake with a calm, predictable temperament. He is just over 5 feet long now.

We got him from a petstore as a yellow ratsnake - opinions from various sources have indicated he may be a striped bubblegum ratsnake or some cross of albino yellowrat. I have never seen photos of anything else that has the amount of orange in the stripes that he has, along with the yellow head.

Any opinions welcome,

Whoa! That is one weird lookin rat! I don't have a clue what could have produced it myself. Are you breeding this guy or does not knowing what he is exactly make you reluctant to? It's a bit of a problem that way because he looks too cool not to...

Thanks for the kind words on this guy. I got him just as a pet because he was so different looking and was one of those snakes that 'I just have to have'. I must have gone back to the store a half dozen times before admitting I was going to spend the rediculous price for him - but he is a really interesting pet. He is very arboreal - spends most of his time in his tree or on his perch - likes chickens as much as mice or rats and is as big and active as a black rat.

As far as what he is - albino striped bubblegum seems to be most likely but Kathy Love said he didn't look typical of the ones she produced. Other thoughts have included albino everglades rat. I have no plans to breed him both because I don't know what he is and because I don't have anything to match up with him. He may be used by another breeder here this spring - haven't heard from her in a while. Interested to know what people think he should be bred to.

Jeff - thanks for the compliment on the photos - I benefit greatly from digital technology - take 25 pics of each snake and one or two of them turn out ok. I love digital images - just erase the bad ones!

Ok, I'll try not to covet your snakes either, but wow! I'd love to have that snake or one that looks like him!!
