Corn snake help

I have just gotten a corn snake that is 35 cm long. When I put him in his terrarium, he started burrowing in the wood chips and would stay there for a long time. I don't know why he's doing this so maybe someone here will know.

does he have a hidespot in the cage? he might be stressed out and just wants to burrow

He has a hiding spot but he also sometimes burrows in there.

What are your temps in the cage?

How do you heat your cage?

I heat it with a 75 W bulb that can also run in the night (it is blue). There IS one problem that I'm fixing tomorrow....I don't have a thermometer

That is definitly something you need for sure. Glad you are getting it.

Your basking spot should be between around 83-86 degrees. Measure many places, ecspecially the inside of the hiding spot under the lamp. You may have to get a lower wattage.

Now I am not sure what they see, so I am going to suggest something other than blue. Thena gain I may be wrong on this, and hopefully someone who knows will jump in.

Another thing, if ut turns out your temps are fine (84-86 on hot side, room temp on the other) then your cornsnake is probably just hiding under the wood chips because they naturally try and borrow. It's pretty normal if temps arent a problem and he could just be doing this. When he gets old and more used to the noises and movement in your house he may come sit out in the open more often.

Corns burrow all the time. They also climb if given the opportunity. It's nothing to be alarmed about.

lol ya my corn burrowed all the time when i had them on wood chips. Now they crawl between the pieces of newspaper. They climb a lot too. If you want to see it a bit more put a branch under the basking light with the hihighest branch branch reaching about 88F. when it gets dark I always see mine there. just make sure you have a good lid or it wont stop it journey up at the branch:)
