Just wondering for my corns cage that i will soon build theres acouple of things i wanted to know first whats the best type of seal to use for a finished half wood half mesh enclosure to keep humidy from escaping? Also it's better to have ventiliation on the sides then the top so should the top just be solid wood?

the deminisons are 5'x4'x'4 would that be big enough for a full grown corn? and whats the best type of wood to use thats strong, sturdy and safe?

5x4x4 feet? That would most definitely be big enough for a full grown corn...most corns don't even grow to be 5 feet long.

Why did you choose those dimensions? 4 feet seems a bit tall to me. It will be big enough though. I house 5 gartes in a 3'x1.5'x2' enclosure and they have plenty of room. A couple of the snakes are over 3 feet long too.

ya i know it's large but i don't belive in such a thing as to much room i've heard people tell me it causes stress on them if theres too much room but thats bullsh*t . as long as she has a hide box she'll enjoy the extra room to hunt.

as for why i chose the demensions i dunno i just thought long tall and wide and thats what i came up with.

the more room the happier the snake :)
thanks

Wow that is a huge enclosure for a cornsnake! Alot of the vertical will pretty much be wasted space. A full grown corn can live in an enclosure half that size. A burm can be housed in an enclosure dimensions 5x4. I would definitely rethink the size dimensions and maybe go with 3(L)x1.5(W)x2(H) (which is still roomy for a cornsnake).
As for the wood there are many different options. All depending on your budget, but oak is very nice. A more affordable option is pine, but if you choose to use this wood it MUST be sealed very well. I would forget about using mesh and make the entire enclosure out of wood and install vents along the side and back for ventilation. Good luck with your project

thanks Linds u always give good advice hmm i guess since everyone has suggested i should shrink it and due to a lower budget I could rethink the hieght i'll try 4'x2'x3' hmm it's going to be a pexiglass front probably just plywood for the sides and back and the top will be plastic steel mesh top and half a bit of ventilation on the side to prevent drying out. all in all nikki will like it i hope. thanks everyone who replied
