Snake Fight!!!

I always put all my snakes in another bin to feed them, and because my yellow rat snakes are always extra pissy after eating I leave them separated overnight. This has always worked fine, and when I put them back into the enclosure they are buddy-buddy as usual. HOWEVER this morning when I put one back in where the other was waiting, he lashed out and grabbed him!!!
I grabbed the two of them and threw them in the bathtub and ran cold water over them. This lasted for only about a minute and a half, even though it seemed longer!

So finally they are happily untangled, but then I noticed on the one that had been bitten a weird blister-like thing. It is on the opposite side from where he was bitten. Basically, it looks like his usual skin as if he were going to shed (snake is not in shed at the moment) but it is full of water. Should I open it up and let the water out, or just leave it???? What do you think???

sorry nothing like this has ever happened to me so i cant offer any advice. hope he gets better soon though.:(

I think you need to at the very least seperate them both to their own enclosure. This is one of many risks you take when housing together.

As for the wound, I am not sure. Could be a bite from another time?

Seperate into seperate encolsures (as easy as a rubbermaid). And take the one with the blister like thing to the vet. Other than that I don't know. Whatever it is make sure it's not contagious and that the other snake can't catch anything.......good luck.

Well, just to update you guys -- the snake with the blister-like thing DID shed after all, and the weird part of his skin looks totally normal now! *WHEW* huge sigh of relief.

And I have separated them, one is in a bin. (The turd that started the fight! lol)

Here's a helpful hint for future episodes of snake fights. try hot water (uncomfortably hot but not hot enough to burn). cold water often just slows them down and if they are determined to hold on they will.
