My name is Ruth, I am 41, and I live in North Shropshire, United Kingdom.

Having kept tropical fish for three years now - my main tank is South American Community Fish - I decided I would like to realise my lifetime ambition of owning a snake.

Last week I started off with a Royal Python, but health problems (ticks, mites, scale rot) made me reluctantly return it to the store. I now have a cute little Californian Kingsnake and have a feeling that I am going to be happier with this one.

I have looked around a few of the reptile forums but found this to be the most friendly and knowledgeable so I can see myself becoming a regular here.

Thanks, everyone. Just had my first experience of snkae 'musk'. LOL I didn't know anything about it until I felt my hand was wet after averting her 'escapology'. Looked in my little book and there it was. Funny the shop man did not tell me about it.

Well, I presume that's what it was - the smell was a sour one. Unless she took one look at me and pee'd herself. ;o)

Ruth, that's one of the joys of owning a kingsnake! LOL! Don't put your "little stinker" back in it's cage right after he or she does this or it will learn that the musking will make you go away. Once he finds out you are not going to eat or harm him that behavior should stop. :D

My son wants to call her 'Sable' after his fave female WWE wrestler but I wanted to call her 'Slinky'.

I now think that perhaps 'Skunky' would be a better choice. LOL Or... She just wolfed down her first feed so perhaps 'Piggy' would be better.

I must admit that, although I like the King, I do miss the BP. She was a lovely creature. Maybe, when I am more experienced I might try again. by then I should have a better idea of what to look for in a 'good' snake.

Thanks, everyone.

I noticed that some members have 'Supporter' under their names. What is this, please? Is it a form of sponsorship?

Yes, it is. If you go to the home page there is a section called photohosting under the Services heading. It's call explained there:D
