my young female RES has what appears to be a respiratory infec tion, she's foaming at her mouth and is very inactive

I asked a fellow at teh pet store today about vets in the area and there are NONE that do reptile within a few hundred miles here

what I'm asking for is if anyone has recieved an antibiotic in the past for this infection to please PM me with the name of the drug so that I can suggest this to my vet or attempt to find it through a vet that does do turtles

thanks for your concern and assistance

sorry for the Xpost, please delete this thread if necessary

What kind of set-up are you using? ie, lighting, heating, land/water raito? Just a few questions to try and help you out.

dual 40g ponds with land mass between them, there is enough land for the turtles, however it is not large, i have 150w heat lamp that keeps the basking area around 90 degrees and a small UV light

the lighting is a new addition AFTER the infection was suspected, so I am blaming coldness on the problem, after the hotter lamp was added, the turtles seem to be basking A LOT and I"m sure that the little one will begin to improve

here are pics of my setup, not just imagine a UV light and heat lamp on the basking area

Yes you should see an improvement in your res now that the UV has been introduced. The basking lamp will also really help improve the sickness problem as most respiratory infections are caused by inadequate heat. I would leave the basking lamp on 24 hours until you see complete improvement. There are several antibiotics available, so just make the suggestion to your vet.
