View Full Version : Humid Hides

Right now I have a Humid Hide made for Montey out of Sphagnum Moss and an upside down tuperward contained with a hole cut out.
My kingsnake doesn't require one because he's content to soak in his water dish whenever he chooses.
And I'll be getting 0.2 Fat Tails which will no doubt need a humid hide as well.
Now my question is, bearing in mind that I always do what's best for my herps, is there anything I can use that's more visually pleasing than a tuperware container? I pride myself on making natural looking enclosures and Montey's tuperware container sticks out like a sore thumb.
However, if the answer is no, I'm sure I can find some way to make it look prettier lol

They have caves you can buy at petstores, just stuff those with sphag moss and they should keep humid enough. Otherwise, you could make one out of fimo or clay :D Or wood, and paint it. There was a thread about it, I think by Bartman .
Good luck!

i forgot who but there's a post in either the enclosure forum or showcase forum that has this wooden box thing. looks cool

I like using clay pots. The ones you buy anywhere and everywhere:D You simply place a regular tupperware inside, either cutting the pot in half or setting it upside down and drilling the existing hole to be bigger. This kind of makes the tupperware invisible. The reason this is great is because plastic tupperware holds humidity so well. You can just simply camoflouge it this way:D

I was actually thinking of literally decorating the tuperware, because you're right Julie, it hold the humidity well. I was thinking of like attaching fake leaves and bark and trying to make it look natural lol
It would be a fun little project

That'd be a great project! You sound every bit as crafty as me. Hey, we could do a reptile "Martha Stewart" kinda show:D LOL!

Yes, FIMO, once baked is reptile safe :) Have fun ;)
Personally, I would stick with the tuperware and decorate it with whatever (fake vines, etc)
attaching stuff may be hazardous as most glues that adhere to plastic are toxic. paint will just flake.

silicone can be spread over the outside of tupperware/ rubbermaid and moss(long fibre) or some other material can be stuck to the piece

If you use my idea..what neo posted..you can drill small holes not all the way through and stick fake leaves in..the meddle parts on the "roots". Thats what i did and it lookes great

i use a warm wet hand towel for my snake, for some reason she hates sphag. i just fold the towel to fit under the hide box, and place the box ontop, and poof a normal looking humid hide, that looks like you always had it!
