Hi,

I am new to these forums, been here for only about a week (i think).

I come from Malta a small independent country in the Mediterranean Sea, and i am fascinated by reptiles especially snakes. We have only a few reptiles here in Malta (checkout http://www.environment.gov.mt/infobase/search.asp?cat=2 for more information).

I will be getting my first snake soon but i haven't decided what to get yet (any suggestions?), and joined the forums for some suggestions.

Thankyou,
Josef

Welcome Josef, I would suggest a ball python as the best beginner snake.

That was what i was thinking of KaHane. It's my favourite type of snake (donno why, i liked it since i was a kid).

Thanks

Welcome to sSNAKESs.com, josefg! :bounce:

I would have to say that a rosy boa is by far the best first snake to get ;)

welcome, being in a place that may have very different laws are some types barred? Doesn't do any good to recomend a python if they aren't allowed. But balls, sand boa, elaphes, milks, kings all can be first snakes sucessfully

I would go with a cornsnake. They stay relitivly small and are in most cases extremly docile

btw

reverendsterlin: i don't know how the laws say about keeping and breeding snakes, and i don't really care ;). However there are several pet shops that supply snakes and put them on display, so i think it's ok to have a snake.

great, now what types do the petshops offer? Or do you have the ability to cover foreign shipping? If you could get any snake and provide proper environment, but want something a little different and more exotic, I must suggest Boa constrictor occidentalis. There are people that say they are aggressive but my pair and all the owners I know have nice calm docile animals that are just fantastic. The care is very similar to common boas, needing only slightly more care feeding as neo's or juvies. I think these animals are greatly under-ranked and the CITES protection can be a pain though so many ccb are available, many places do not distinguish between imports and ccb's from other areas.

I was sure I could see a ball python but i could not recognize the others that were in the cages. I started to look for information about snakes just now so that after a month of information gathering I can get one. And then a found an interesting forum.....
