I was just thinking of getting a membership/subscription to one. Its called reptiles..i guess thats the one your talking about (unless your just saying rep magz in general)..and it was quite interesting. Lots of cool little articles and things about all different types of reptiles. I think im going to subscribe to it sometime this week

It depends. if you are getting a lot of information out of it and you enjoy reading it, keep buying it. If everything you read in there seems like you already know it, and you don't want to spend money on it, don't. I personally don't read it, because I can get all the information I need on this site and others, and I don't like spending money on things I don't need or things that I can save on.

A while ago we got a ball python that didn't fit into the owner's life anymore. Along with it, we got Reptiles issues back to the very first one (there are some missing and some are in rough shape, but for the most part it is a good set). The difference between what was coming out then and what is out now is night and day. Back then, there were comprehensive articles geared towards the intermediate hobbyist. Now, it seems to be largely just care sheets with pretty pictures. Sure, I'll still pick up the odd issue and I still enjoy flipping through them at the pet store, but I much prefer to read the back issues.
Cheers,

Personally, I love reptiles magazine, and I will be subscribing to it as soon as I can. For now, I just keep my eyes on the magazine rack at the pet store.
I've been a subscriber for years and love it. Although I only collect snakes, I've learned alot about many other reptiles. Also, I love the classifieds in the back.

I find it entertaining and there is some really nice photography but it is about 90 percent advertisements. The article in this months about the horned lizards was pretty good. The bull horned lizard is just crazy looking.
we've been subscribing for 2 years now, reading about offbeat animals is one of the best parts of the mag.

I got into herps before reptiles ever came out. That magazine has made wonders for this hobby back about 13 years ago things were a lot different people have a lot more information on herp then they did in the old days.I think most breeders owe some of there success to reptiles magazine.

I've been subscribing since January 2003 and I've loved it so far. I've found many articles to be helpful. The Jan. '03 article on blood pythons was very good.

They like to charge us canadians alot for rep mag. don't they!! I got about 5 years worth and find myself pulling out back issues quite regularly...I remember the 1st one i got, i think in 98, it had slash on the cover and an article on blue-tongues, that was my fav. issue.....

I think Reptiles Magazine is awesome. I find it to be very informative, and it does help educate me further on reptiles. I wouldn't trust any other magazine. :)

I have subscribed to Reptiles Magazine since '93 and I have found that it seems to be going down hill. More adds. More fluff. I like the magazine overall, but it often does not have the type of info that I am looking for. I decided to let my subscription run out a while ago.

I've been a subscriber since day 1 and still enjoy the magazine even though I keep almost nothing anymore. Over the years I've been in this hobby, it's the best hobbyist publication I've seen and there have been many come and go.

I personally find it overly commercial and bent on driving the latest "trend" herps down our collective throats. I find the majority of their articles overlook vital issues and most of the husbandry suggestions are geared toward selling more products.
The Vivarium was a far better publication in my opinion, but unfortunately they along with several other herp periodicals all got buried around the same time. Oh well, I guess now that they're the only show in town I don't have a choice.

I think reptiles bought out Vivarium... last time I saw an issue was a year ago at reptilia.

Yes, they did. I think Vivarium was the last to hold out. The first few volumes of Reptiles following the assimilation had a header on the cover stating that they were "Now Incorporating Vivarium Magazine", but I never came across any content that I would have associated with it.

I have been a subscriber for years, and will continue to be. However, I liked the old Reptile and Amphibian magazine better. I wish I could still subscribe to that. :(
I like some of the articles but I don't buy it unless I find something interesting..lol...

HELPFUL!! I have been a subscriber since I was about 8 years old. Awesome descriptive information plus tons of beautiful pics. And also a section for vivs as well. This magazine rocks!

I think that Reptiles is a great publication. I have been a subscrber since april of 1994. Until I found this magazine I did not realize that the reptile hobby was so big back then. I have every issue since then except the may1994 issue(i was waiting for my subscription). I think that it is great to get it every month. I have got issues on certain animals that I did not have or have an interest to get but later on ended up getting some. They are great for reference.

I usually buy it in the store but am soon going to subscribe.
The subscription rate is great if you get it at a reptile show...I believe the rate was two years for the price of one and the subscription rate beats the store rate already.
I don't really read it so much to learn important facts and helpful hints as much as I do for interesting stories and the great pix. There is some good Q&A though.
There's another magazine which I've seen at some of the shows,"Reptilia",I think is the name of it....very nice pix.
It's a European based company though,so I was a bit hesitant about sending my money to another country and waiting to see if my mags came.
I really like Reptiles Magazine. I used to subscribe and plan to again. They have put out some great articles. In the last year or so that I haven't subscribed I've picked up the issues that had a subject or care sheet that interested me.

I love Reptiles Magazine. I think it has some very good articles and photographs. It often has information that you can't just find on the web, it's very informative, a great resource.
I got a two year subscription for Christmas, I'm pretty happy about that.
