Hello,
I have a 3 year old male ball python. He is about 3-3.5 feet long. Just in the past two months he has showed no interest in eating. I don't want to try live only to get him hooked on it plus it is bad for them but I am worried. He has always been a good eater and never has refused any meals I offer him. What could be the deal?
Thanks

Well my male has gone off food as well man.
I think what is happenin is he wants a girlfriend. Plus balls tend to go off food this time of year anyway.
All my girls are still eating but no matter what i try i cant get the male to eat, so im just gonna wait awhile and then just keep trying.
Ya dont try live, he will eat again, just give him some time and keep tryin, he'll get hungry enough.

My male did that to. Still is, don't pull your hair out over it, both my bp's did it, does it, and are in the process of refusing food I give them. lol, bp's are notorious for refusing food. Do a search on the BP forum something like "my bp won't eat, bp refusing food" etc.....etc.. should bring up a few posts and peoples ideas on how to get them to eat again. As long as he stays a good weight then it shoud be fine.
Mine fasted last year from October to June. She eventually started eating again. (Strangely she is still eating vigorously this year though!). I wouldn't worry too much at this time of year.

As everyone said.... 'tis the season.
....to get frustrated as all hell that our balls aren't getting any bigger.
Mykee- LOL! What a way to put it.
Ha ha! Sorry, our royals.

That's weird that most don't eat, becaus right now, 3 weeks into cycling, I'm seeing feeding responses I haven't seen since last spring! Everything is wailing F/T HUGE rats like its going out of style. Well, everything except the 2003 babies. Ha ha, stupid babies.
This dude ate a 145g rat last night and this morning was back in action. Not missing a beat.
Check your humidity. Sometimes when it gets dry (winter air) Balls tend to go off food. I find that at the beginning of cycling, all everything wants to do is get fat. The frenzy usually stops around the first week of January. But you gotta make hay while the sun shines!! Or else you'll be waitin' ANOTHER year to get eggies, LOL!!

Same thing is happening with one of my males, but not the other. One is inhaling rats, and the other hasn't taken them since last month. Both seem to be *hopefully* getting the job done. :) Weird......

Hey Favelle, what size rubbermaid you keeping those adult balls in man?
The number of the rubbermaid if possible?
My older Bp's are split, half eating and half not eating. All of my 2003's are still eating. The ones I hatched are all between 450 - 600 grams and are just over 4 months old. I purchased a couple of 2003's from Corey Woods and they're still eating too. I guess I should knock on wood now....lol.

Yeah, out of the 32 babies from this year, 24 are pounding F/T rats and the other 8 will take live on a GOOD day. LOL! Not bad, but I'll be a LOT happier when they ALL start taking F/T. Biggest one is 650g. I haven't been pushing them like I used to. 18 months is nice to breed the females, but I'm sticking with 30 months from now on. Males will still go at 10 months though, regardless of size, ha ha!!
