I was contacted yesterday by a girl who our local animal clinic recommended call me. She HAD an iguana, approx. 3 yrs old.....they were scared of it. It tried to bite, and tailwhip, and was aggressive she said. She was going to put it down (thats why the vet told her to call me). So I asked if she could hang on for a while and I would try to find an experienced home for it, she said she didn't want it around long, cuz her and her son were scared of it. I got her to agree to wait till the end of the weekend to see if I could place it.

I found a home. An experienced rescue would have helped out. They would have drove a couple hrs to pick up this iggy, this weekend. I told her that yesterday after I heard the great news. She said she might have found someone else (local) to take it. I said call me when you know for sure.

She just called.
They felt very strongly that this iguana was too aggressive.
They killed it.
I am soooooo p!ssed and upset and uggggggggggg.

(the vet put it down)

I had a good home for it. damn it.

Pet shops fail to tell you just what your getting into when you hand over your money for something like a iguana. Some people think they are disposeabul pets.

Tragic, pet stores should provide more information, provided they themselves have two clues to rub together.

If I had known they were going to do this, I would have gone over yesterday and picked him up to keep here (even tho I have no room) untill the weekend when the rescue would have picked him up.

My iggy is very aggressive right now, would I put her down? NEVER. uggg.

People never cease to amaze me at the levels they can go to. Blah.

Thanks for reading and letting me vent.

at 3 ft isnit that around the time they hit adolescents? I don't know much about iggies but frig, how hard is it to keep it in a cage and feed and water it for a week till a home was found? Thats just irresponisble and ignorant. They really shouldn't be allowed pets if they can't do the research first and be prepared >:-(

That is terrible... those stupid people DO deserve to know the true meaning of the word ''aggressive''! :(

My boyfriend has an iguana that is about 3 ft. in length right now and he's really mean to my bf and everyone in his family, but he's a sweetheart to me! I don't understand it... he hates everyone but me, lol. And to put this in a furry animal situation... my dog is extremely protective and aggressive if anyone comes near my mom, dad, sister or I. He has been like that all of his life and we can't take him anywhere but we would never put him down. :(

Hmmm...Did anyone say that the iguana was bought at a petstore? Maybe it came from a breeder or another irrisponsible keeper who didnt want him/her and didnt bother to give these people any information about what was involved in keeping the lizard. The iguana PROBABLY did come from a pet store BUT since you don't know for sure and are just asuming it is best to keep opinions like that to urself. I work in a petstore and we don't sell iguanas partly because of their aggressive nature and the fact that situations like this occur when the lizard becomes too much to handle. I have never sold any animal whether it be a water dragon to an anole unless the person fully understands what they need to keep the animal now and in the future. :)

What a bunch of f**king idots! *grrrrrrrr* That poor iguana should have been given a chance. For we know, those a$$holes could have been mistreating the poor thing which lead up to its aggressive streak. It's a good thing I don't know where they live.

That's what I was thinking too Erin....I know they are local to me, but don't know them personally. If they had called me before and said they were taking it in, I would have gone and gotten it. *sigh*

Oh, and....I do not know for sure where it came from.
