I'll be getting a pair of them in the new year, so I can't give you firsthand experience yet, but from what I know, they're quite similar to white lipped pythons as babies as far as personality goes. :) Very quick, and very quick to bite. Most calm down though from what I hear. What info specifically are you looking for? Care info? Species info?

I keep 2 and love them dearly. Actually, my favorite snake (of 20) is Marius, the Macklot. He is about 1 year old now and is an amazing 5.5 feet. When he was little (less than 15" when I got him) he was rather mean. They bit A LOT when they are young. Now, he is affectionate. That's right dog lovers, an affectionate snake. He likes to curl up with me while I watch the tube. He likes to be petted, even on the head. He hasn't bitten in about 9 months. His little soul mate (Trinity) is another story. She is about 6 months and growing at a much slower rate (apx 24"). She is still vile and hateful and likes to bite a lot. I think with time she will calm down like Marius. BTW, they have this beautiful sheen to their skin when they first shed, much like a D'Alberts (White Lipped) python. I would definatly recomend a Mac as a pet, if you don't mind "bleeding for the cause" for a few months. Shoot me your email addy and I will send some pics.

I have kept Macklott's, or Freckled Pythons, as they are also known. Mine were a bit spirited when they were smaller, but they grew into beautiful, powerful yet easily handleable adults with a wicked feeding response.
And, as Lasher has previously stated, they have an absloutely amazing irridescence at all times, but particularly after a shed it's very "satiny". Gorgeous!
I would highly recommend this specie to someone looking for a good-sized, impressive, yet manageable python.

This thread has really made me regret selling mine, lol!

Cheers!

Simon is right, after these guys are freshly shed they are incredible looking! Babys are usually quite nippy but as adults they are usually quite tame and manageable. They are a great snake, lots of fun to work with and a realativly easy species to breed as well. Here is a pic of my big female...and yes, im aware im wearing surgical gloves...lol!

WOW, they get to be a rather impressive size too, eh? Given how tiny they are as babies, you wouldn't expect them to get a girth like that. How much does your big girl weigh, Chris? What's her length?

Hmmmm..I don't know how much she weighs, exactly. I never put her on the scales. She is however, close to 10' in length now. From my understanding, not unlike the retics, depending on what locale they are ...they can realy vary in size! i'm just glad this female does not have the disposition of a baby! LOL!

Isn't the record 9 feet? You may have a record-breaker on your hands, Chris. :)

Hmmmmmm..i'm gonna have to get a tape on her now just to make sure...i'll get back to you on this one.

Super snake, Chris! Nicely marked, too. Awesome.

Can I ask what the surgical gloves are for? Is it to prevent contamination from a snake to the other? Or just a Micheal Jackson freak? ;-p Teasing you, but a good idea when manipulation more than a reptile.

I supose the jackson question would be justified , if i were wearing one glove that is:p lol! Basicly, i wear them when im cleaning, and they are changed in between snakes. Also, if you work with alot of boas..from time to time you get bit so it protects me as well, from geting feces and what not in an open wound.

And im just plain anal about being clean, ask anyone who has seen my collection...hell, i don't even like crinkled paper!

Got that baby measured yet, Chris?

Just under the 10' mark man! 9' 11" soooooooooo close!

Invictus

That's still pretty unreal... I wish there were some sort of "official" source like Guiness or something like that for record snake lengths per species, because 10' has got to be close, if not a record breaker. In any event, you're lucky to have such a huge specimen! Will you be breeding her soon, or has she mated already?

Yeah, i bred her last season actually, so there are a few of her offspring floating arround Canada. Here is a pic of her on her 21 eggs.

And here's one of some of the little ankle biters, piping!

Just wanted to throw some more feedback in here, since I am now a proud owner of 1.2 Macklotts. :)

I love this species! 2 of mine have NEVER bitten. I have a female who is still pretty nippy, but she's calming down quickly. Something else I love about them is how smooth their scales are. If you keep them at the right humidity, they are like silk. Very active, SO alert, nice to look at... the irridescence on these guys is beyond words. So far I am just loving my Macklotts. I'll post pictures as soon as I can get a hold of a digital camera. :)

Chris, that is definitely one of the nicest macklotts I have yet to see! Not to mention, shes a tank!

Macklotts are beautiful pythons, absolutely stunning. They are definitely under-rated! Everything about them is just fantastic, look at their heads!

Their heads actually remind me a lot of scrubs. Anyone else see this resemblance?
