clip?

Do you guys clip your monitors nails? I was thinking of clippig my baby savs, there getting painfully sharp...and when he eats silkies he gets them in his mouth and cuts them open, basically he makes a huge mess

You can get a lizard clipper at a local pet store. Only cot the sharp tips though! Go no further!!:D

I think its the same as cutting a dogs nail, only cut the ver end off and not too far down, otherwise it will hit a blood vessel and be very painful.

i clip my sav. monitors nails. i just use clippers that i use, works just as fine as pet clippers. only clip the pointy tip! its just like our nails, cut too much it hurts or evan bleed. good luck!

There are sites to look at if you clipped the claws too far, though!!:D

I just use regular fingernail clippers.
To make the whole ordeal a little less stressful for the lizard and a little less risky for me I put a couple of inches of warm water in the bathtub and let my monitor calm down a bit.
Then I clip until she starts to get agitated,ease off a bit then clip again when she settles.
It only takes about 5 mins.
I got some great stuff from the petshop call quick blood stopper.
It's a yellow styptic powder and quickly stops most accidental over-cuts.

i clipped my uromastyx claws and it was easy causs there not aggressive. I only clip right at the tip where it really pointy and now hes fine. Im gonna try cliping my savs nails but i think im gonna wait because hes still a baby so they arnt really that sharp and i dont want him to become crazy...hes really calm now and i would love to have a kitten tamed sav. Anyone have one?

We clip our monitors nails, and the turtles and the tortoises and so on.
best bet:
Only cut the tips off
Try and cut with the angle of the nail itself
have "Quick Stop" on hand
The bathtub trick seems to work on our monitors too, well at least the nile and water. It's easiest to have two people also.
But it can be done!

Hes still a baby so im not worried that he will easily over power me. Hes probably no older then 8 months id think..around a foot long with the tail. So i can easily grasp him hard enough to cut them..and hes really calm, like REALLY calm so he wont be running..thanks for the replies!
