View Full Version : 70 gal...
hey everyone,
i was just wondering i'm hoping getting a breeding pair of western mourning skinks soon. The book says that one to 2 can be kept in a 50 gal but i like to have a bit more than the book recomends i was just wondering about how big a 70 gal is and do you think it would be sutiable for two lizards that get about 14'' long and what are the demensions and about how much is one or would it be cheaper to build. thx

I'm not too familiar with those skinks, but as far as size of the enclosure, bigger is always better. Sometimes you can find good deals in your local classifieds. I got a 55 gal. for 50 bucks with fish tank stuff one time. As far as building goes, it depends on what materials you want to use. I just built a 4' x 13" x 2' addition to my 80 gallon water dragon enclosure. It cost me $85 for everything but the sliding glass doors which will probably be just as much(waiting for the next paycheck). If you were to buy a 50 or 80 gal. aquarium at a Petsmart (they don't sell 70's), it will cost you just as much as building one, but you get to have fun with a project and you can customize it to suit your needs.
Thx i'm aslo planning on buying a monkey tail skink i think it would be cheaper to just build a cage 3',4',4' out of wood with small side vents and a pixiglass front anyways i've never made a cage befor so any helpful advice would br great also since monkey tailed skinks need alot of mositure what is the best material to keep it in would wood be ok is so what kind and would i need some sorta of selent just to make sure theres no crack? ?DOes anyone have any guesses about how much this is or would it be chepaer to order one in from someone who makes custom cages. how do you attach like boards on the inside like 3'1' for basking area and logs thx sry for so many questions just wanna do it right.
