anyone here ever use this camera? if you have I'd love to hear about its abilities to shoot, especially detailed close ups. I'm going to buy a cam in the next week and need some opinions. I don't want top of the line but something fairly decent. If you have pics taken by this model or older models please show!:)
The camera is priced at $550 so any other reccomendations in that range would be greatly appreciated. thanks for any help!

Hey that's exactly what I was about to ask:D Tim and I went to London Drugs to check out the cameras and we were almost dead-set on the Canon A70, but the guy there suggested we look at the Nikon 3100. We explained what we needed it for (taking reptile photos) and he showed us some close ups from the 3100. Great close-ups! He snapped a shot of some carpet and when you zoom you can do a thread count, clearly. Then he showed us a comparison photo of a brick wall. The A70 was great, but the 3100 was sharper and cleaner. The 4300 is good, but only features one more pixel and labelled options rather than just icons, over the 3100. However, you also get the Adobe printshop program ($150) free with the 4300. Also, the 2 year warranty (every other brand has one year) is awesome. Then there is the fact it comes with a battery charger and a free battery (lithium I believe) which is another $100 savings! Basically the Nikon 3100 or 4300 is a great deal. I too would love to see someone post some Nikon photos.

I use a Nikon 885. A later model of the Coolpix 850. The 4300 has 4.3 Mp (I believe) but I've only got 3.1Mp. Check out my gallery to see some of my 3.1Mp Coolpix 885. Don't have that many pics in there now but you should have a rough idea. :)

Here's one which would give you an idea of the Nikon macro capabilities. It only gets better from my cam. I wish I had waited the extra year or two and saved big time and got a better camera. But then again, I might as well just save up for the D10! :D

Nikon takes better macro pictures, but Canon is better at overall picture quality. Personally, you cannot go wrong with either camera.
