When you stumble across one of these big fellas sunning itself in the bush it scares the absolute s**t out of you! For there size they can be amazingly agile. This bloke and his female lived about 50mtrs from our back door. He's about as big as they get (I've seen them much fatter though).

nice photo - I have a pic from 1950 of an absolutely enormous varius, that could easily dispatch the fellow in the tree....where in Ozz do you live? Do you see bells-phase varius there too??

Uhh, I can imagine that was some awesome reptile. Unfortunatly (wife won't budge) we currently live in melbourne but this photo was taken when we lived just outside of Prosperpine, Nth QLD. I didn't spot any broadbands in this area although I have found them much further south around Nambour.
