View Full Version : Size at hatching?
I know there is probably some (a lot?) variation, but what would be an approximate weight of a Corn Snake at the time of hatching? I weighed mine today and they are 17g and 12g, and I'm trying to figure out about how old they might be. The store where I put them said they hatched in June-July, but that seems pretty small to me, to be that old, so now I'm wondering if maybe they are younger than I first thought. (I haven't measured the 17g one yet but the 12g one is 14.33" long).

MThe ones I've produced have all been around 7g. I've had a few 8g ones and one 4g one but 7g seems to be the norm.
The snake was probably born in June or July and just maintained on a megar diet. I've got one that was born mid august and it weighs 45g. There is a big diference in the way a pet shop corn is fed and one that is being raised buy the person who bred it.
Hope this helps,
Trevor
Oh wow - that's a huge difference in size! I have been feeding a pinky every 5 days but was thinking about increasing that to every 4 days. Do you think I should even consider more than that, or does that sound appropriate?

My corn is 7grams as of Dec.8. He was born around Aug. 11/03.
I'm working on increasing his feeding frequency...He was on every 10days before I got him, I know have him on every 7days, and am working on getting him to every 5 days.

Stay on every 5 days for the first year then got to every 7 days. The size of the prey is what's realy important. If you feed him a mouse equal to or slightly larger than his girth ever 5 days you'll see him grow much faster. The sooner you get him off pinkies the better so as soon as he is big enough to take a small fuzzie start giving them to him. Pinkies come in different sizes to. If you can get week old pinkies instead of day olds then go for that if you can.

How much do thoes mice weigh Rev?

My volcano corn, born in late July, is eating small adults once a week. I think yours would at least take fuzzies at that size.
