Hiya all,
Seeing as Xmas holidays are coming up, I am planning on going home for a couple of weeks. I have two 5 month old cornsnakes, which I was planning on taking with me, but now I am not so sure. I didn't think it would be a problem just putting them under my sweater while I make the 6 hour drive (I have mini snake bags for them), but it has been DAMN cold out lately. Would a styrofoam box and heat packs be a better idea? Also, I'm worried about the stresses they'll have travelling twice in the span of two weeks. Would it be possible to just leave them and skip their meal for a week? Or would brumating for 2-3 weeks work? Or shall I just give up and look for a babysitter for them? Any advice would be great.

Leanne

PS - I apologize if this post is a little incoherent.... exams are getting to me....

as long as they have plenty of water they should be fine, maybe someone come in one day to change water/check things.

Couple or 3 water dishes in case they poop in them, feed em before ya go & have their lights on timers, no worries. A friend to check up on them is definitely a bonus too. Why stress them out at all, just let them go hungry for a week. Mark I.

if they go hungry at least you'll KNOW they will eat when ya get back. :)

Mark,
If I feed them before I go, I'm gonna find 3-4 piles of poop in each cage and a smelly room when I get back, as I don't have anyone who could clean up after them. Would that be irritating to their respiratory systems at all? Snake pee doesn't really have that ammonia-type quality to it, but it still stinks :P I know they can go without food easily, but I feel bad making them wait... they are still voracious! I was even thinking about brumating them this year since I'm in no hurry to breed them, but they just keep on taking as many fuzzies as I'll give them!

I agree, if they have enough water they should be okay, just feed before u go, two weeks isnt all that long.

Feeding them before ya go isn't that big of a deal if you don't want to come back to stale poop. Also by not feeding them you also decrease the chances of them soiling their fresh water. Just plan your last feeding so they will have pooped before ya go & feed em when ya get home then. Snakes can go for months & months no problems without food as long as they are healthy to begin with. Mark I.

i would follow gonesnakee's advice the not eating wont hurt and you dont have to burmate them.

I left mine back in July when I went on vacation for 2 weeks. I just left water and a friend changed the water a few times.

I am travelling with my snakes to Winnipeg in January. I am putting them in a styrofoam box, with a hot water bottle. My trip is 22 hours of straight driving. But the heat in my truck will be warm enough. I will not have the AC on.

So as long as your heat is on in the car, they should be fine for the trip.
