Although it was a horrible accident, I have to give credit to the reporter and the Animal Control Sgt. for "defending" snakes so well.

Typical story ... sad thing is that they will probably win the fight..

What medical bills do u need after a bite from a 10 foot burm .. the punctures would be tiny and heal over in a few days like any other scratch.. I think theres some exageration in there.

Im suppose to bring some of my herps to my daughters school hearing something like this makes me change my mind about bringing any snakes. I whas hopeing to educate them a little and take away any fears that thy my have of snakes. but what if something whent rong. If the familey cat bit and scratch a kid nowone would make a big deal about it but if it wear a snake it would make front page news around hear. Maybe even CNN. As herpers we have the responsibility of keeping are heps safe but we also have to keep the public safe as well and not to add fears. there are people out there that would like to take this hobby from us. You are not leaguey aloud to keep snakes in niagara falls ontario any more. All it takes is for some kid to get bit agen. When they hear this kind a thing it adds fuel to there fire!..............................hay alex I see you are from wellend have you ever bean to carls....seaway serpentarium its on 9 steel.st we whent and we were abel feed the crocodiales. alligators. and camien it was cool. give me a email im from ST. catharines.the next plase to get the X pet bane!!!!

medical bills due to the boy being strangled by the snake ...
a 10 foot burm constricting a 10 years old is like a 25 foot anaconda constricting you ... the snake owner was the idiot to let his snake unsupervised with a children ...

There might be muscle damage although minor it could happen, I got tagged quite badly by a 10 foot albino burmese once badly (was all my fault ) and it got its teeth just right on my hand that they went through my muscles in my fingers, nothing that time did not heal and nothing permanent came out of it but there you go. I do not recommend people bring their animals out for a jog or to the local schools frequently unless you know what you are doing and you NEVER release the head of the animal that is just a law suit waiting to happen it does not matter how tame your burm, corn, king ect is .. these kids are unexperienced with these types of animals and jump and scream and ocasionally run and try to drop the animal so for not just the sake of the child for the sake of the reptile as well keep ahold of them that way if someone does freak out and try to run or get away you still have some element of control. Kids almost always freak out whether out of excitment or fear.
So please anyone who thinks they can just take there reptile to a local classroom remember this because if one child gets bit do you EVER think that anyone will be able to educate with reptiles in school again? No the board will vote against it we as educators have to debate enough to have them in the schools so we can root out the ignorance in pepole.
Also I think that that officer handeled the situation quite well and must have been an educated man in herps to some degree to realize that boy that was holding bunnies= nice snake snack. :)
