What is a normal price for a tokay?? My LPS has one for 59.99. Also I don't know for sure but they aren't very friendly right?? The guy there told me that they are great pets to keep and they become so tame you can have them sit on you while you walk around, and they never bite. I got the impresion that they were the oppisite (sp?)?? That they were show animals basicly??

Most of the pet stores around here they go for $30 and even cheaper from breeders.

They do make great pets, but I am not sure on the tame part. Most people I know that have them, say they will bite at any given chance. So if it is sitting on your shoulder then it will bite your ear.

Tame tokays are the rare exceptions as almost all will attempt to remove any body part you are foolish enough to offer them. There are people with "tame" specimens, but don't be mislead by store employees eager to unload them, they are commonly regarded as one of the most vicious gex around.

Aside from that, they are great for observation. If you get multiples they will often bark at each other. The hatchlings are hilarious to deal with, you'd never think you could pack so much fury into such a cute little package! Your original take on them is correct: great display animal, not an interactive pet.

Wholesale prices range from $9 while in season to $20 when supplies dwindle. Retail prices are adjusted accordingly.

Hey,
Normally the geckos that are 25-30$ are captive bred, and the cheaper ones are wc. Like everyone else said its possible to tame them down, but its easy if you get them as a baby and handle it. I don't really handle my Tokays except if I have to, but they are really awesome to watch! They are not boring at all! Oh yeah and you want to make sure if you buy more than one that you have the space 2 adult tokays require a lot of room (ie 65 gallon) and make sure not to get 2 males or you will have a serious problem on your hands they will fight and injure eachother. But a male can be kept with a female, without to many problems but again space is necessary or they may gang up on eachother.

i got mine from a local breeder for $18. $59 bucks is way over priced in my opinion. they shouldnt be more then $25-$30(without shipping from breeders) hope you find a great tokay!

I wasn't looking to get one. I just wanted to know if what he was saying was right. Basicly I enjoy teaching about herps, so I wanted to know if my LPS was wrong. I'm kinda well known there so they listen if I tell them what they were told was wrong. I've taught them alot actually. They used to keep all lizards on sand untill I talked to them. Now it's bare bottem or paper towel. Unless it's a skink then they use peat moss I think??
