Drako lizard

i watched snake wranglers on the weekend and they found a drako lizard and it had sorta like wings that open up to glide like a sugar glider, has anybody ever heard of these? im a snake guy, but would really like to get one of those for my wife, can someone help or can someone direct me were to get them Thanks Phil

Draco volans. Wonderful little lizard to observe, impossible to keep alive. Apparently they have a very specialized diet and aren't very resilient when it comes to captivity and shipping. I've never known any to live more than a few weeks even under the care of zoologists.

Dracos are very neat lizards indeed! WM is right that they do not ship well, but mostly due to thier need for high humidity. Once they have arrived and are rehydrated they can do quite well given a proper environment is provided for them.

An associate of mine is currently keeping <i>Draco lineatus</i> and <i>Draco maculatus</i> and they are doing rather well. A couple months ago he actually had a little baby hatch. They make baby house geckos look BIG ;)

They surely aren't a good starter lizard, however.

Jon, I'm curious-- Is your associate using ants as a dietary component? From the info I've managed to scrape up, they are supposed to be a significant prey item to many Draco sp.

Also, where on earth did this person obtain sp other than D. volans? I've never even heard of any others available to the hobby. At any rate, that's encouraging news and I'd love to hear any updates on their status.

We've actually had them eating pinhead crickets. They came in direct from Indo. There were actually supposed to be four species arriving, but I guess only two were available at the time the order was sent.

Definately neat little lizards!
