New Experiment

Hey.

I thought i would let you guys know about an experiment i am working on. Latley i have been having a bit of trouble with my vine snakes shedding, i have been spraying them 10+ times a day and nothing has worked. so, heres what i am doing. i am putting a CM of water in the bottom of the tank with a rock in the middle if it ever feels like going to the ground. now, some of you may know when vine snakes are dehydrated they go to the ground and they will stay there until they are rehydrated. so now when the vine snake goes down to the ground, it will immediately find water. as for humidity, i put suran wrap on most of the lid, left some room for air and also so it doesn't get too humid. i have a heat pad under the water part and it doesn't get too hot either, the loose skinshed has come off. so i will keep you posted on how it all goes. do you have any comments or suggestions? i can always use a hand and experience.

a friend with a brb took one of those rubber doormats that was about an inch thich and laid it on the floor of his enclosure keeping the water level just below the top. worked great but meant that any defication had to be cleaned very quickly.

Sounds like the suggestion I heard about keeping humidity high for Redtailed Rats. Don't see why it wouldn't work. Emulates their natural environment.

k, i have changed the plan a little bit. it got too moist and hot.

Yeah, you really have to keep on eye on the heat. When you start sealing up the cage to keep the humidity in, you invariably end up insulating it as well.

I guess what needs to be improvised is how much air circulation to allow, which is something that will take a close eye and observation on. Overall it seems to be a good idea. May be a good idea to incorperate a valve system, such as what you would find on a BBQ grill. Something you could change that would allow more or less air circulation, as well as a rheostat on the heat supply ( which I assume ya have). Good luck with the 'experiment'.

sounds like it will help just watch the temps and let us know how it goes mine always shed poorly
