I understand what some things refering to corn colors mean, for instance I have an amel corn so I know what that looks like, I'm hoping that my next will be a lavendar and I know what that looks like as well. My main confusion color is snow, is that just an albino or is it different in some way? But if someone could explain a few other colors that are common it would be appreciated, or if there is a site with examples and common color names that would be cool too.
Thanks bunches!
Well I have a hard time with genetics myself. Just not my thing for some reason. But I will try and explain snow to you, correctly if I can. LOL.
Amel means lack of black pigments. So you get a snake that is orange/red and white which is the amel corn.
Anery means removal of reds/oranges...so you have your anery corns who are grey and black with no red or orange.
A snow corn is amel and anery combined. Which means both red and black pigments are removed leaving you with a white/peachy colored snake. Snows are very variable though, some with more yellows, some almost white, some more pink.
Hopefully someone can correct me if I am wrong, and/or give you more insight.

Click here (http://www.cornsnakes.net/new/cornprice.php3) or you can track down Rich Zuchowski's site, he had great explanations of all the current cultivars as well as pictures.

as well as serpwidget's site which a quick search will find and gives a great basic genetics tutorial.

What is the difference between a blizzard and an albino then? They are both white with red eyes....
Dragon Slave,
A blizzard is an animal with both amel and charcoal (anery b)genes showing in the phenotype. Where as a snow is an amel and anery a showing in the phenotype. Also we usually call an albino red (anery) or albino black (amel)
So basically
Amel = Albino black (lack black pigments)
Anery a = Albino Red (lack red pigments)
Charcoal (anery b) = Albino red (which most will also reduce the amount of yellow. But it's not completely lack of yellow. Some charcoals can have yellow too)
Blizzard = Combination of Amel and Charcoal (Anery b)
Snow = Combination of Amel and Anery a
To make things even more complicated...
there are also the bloodred, hypo, caramel genes and lavender gene...just for colorwise....pattern wise there are also motley and striped.....lol....that is why I love working with corns...there are just so many things that we can play with..

Simon, amel=red albino aneryA=black albino
reverndsterlin,
actally it's the other way round
we refer to albino red as in lacking red pigment
so that is why the animal is black/grey.
Same goes to the albino black as in lacking in black pigment
so that is why the animal is red/orange~
at least that was what I learned....lol

ok if you want to be wrong. Here is a quote from Kathy Love's site (you tell her she doesn't have a clue) BLACK ALBINO CORNS (Type "A" Anerythristics) Silvery-gray to black blotches over a pale ground color with yellow on chin and neck; no red pigment at all. :D
Oops~
my bad!
You're right!
I guess I got it all mixed up....lol
that's why I always call them
amels, anery a and anery b....
thanks for correcting me...and my stubborn knowledge...lol
