Well I finally picked the right time to offer him a mouse and he took it!

I waited till he was in his hide, but awake and peeking out the hole occasionally. i warmed up the mouse and danced around outside the opening for a few minutes....Pretty soon his little yellow nose came peeking out and WHAMMO he grabbed it!

I was worried that it was a tad big for him, it was a chubby little thing, but he handled it just fine. Unfortunately he grabbed it by the stomach at first and it took him a while to find the head but once he did he gobbled it down in no time! Amazing to watch. I got a little worried that he wouldn't be able to fit back throught the door of his hide LOL..but he seems to have made it back in ok.

Anyways.. here are the pics!

First one I took without a flash cause I wasn't sure if it would freak him out... but I decided to go for it with the last two and he didn't mind at all.

here is is at first strike:

Here he is making sure it's dead ( we'll just let him think it wasn't already)

and here he is after he found the head..

I'm so proud of my boy! And so relieved that I finally figured out how he likes to be fed.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions, and once again to Jeff for selling me the little guy, and answering my questions!

congrats and yeah that guy could handle the biggest mouse you could find so I wouldn't worry about any mouse you try with him.

LOL! Told you that little guy was an insane eater. I mean, look at the size of him for his age. And I wasn't even gunning him, like I would a future breeder female!

Good job Nicole. Very good job. :D

LOL..well it wasn't THAT easy..I've been trying for the last couple of days and had to throw out a couple mice, but it was just my error because I was offering it to him at the wrong times.

Not to try and steal your thunder, but Fred ate too! :D

A rat too, atleast I think he is eating, he struck twice, then I droped the rat and he constricted it for about a minute, un coiled and then pulled it back inside his hide, I can only assume to eat it because I don't want to bug him right now, I'll check in the morning to make sure it is gone. Scared the living **** outta me that's for sure but considering he has only been in his new home for 3 days, I'm happy as a pig in **** that he took it so soon without any probs.

My only problem now is that because he took it back in his hide I couldn't see if he actually ate it. I'm pretty sure he did but not 100% and since he hasn't been in his new home for more then a week I would hate to ruin his favorite place to hide by picking it up and making him feel no longer safe in his hide. I usually use a low power flashlight to look inside so I can be sure he is actually in there, but the hole is small so I'm having a hard time seeing if the rat is in their. Decisions, Decisions, lift up his hide and stress him out or leave his hide alone and hope he actually ate it :/
