Can someone please tell me what I need to make a 10gal aquarium into an incubator and how to set it up? I already have a 10gal aquarium, and an aquarium heater. If I remember correctly there is something to do with bricks and water and the containers with sphagnum or vermiculite. Please correct me if I am wrong and please let me know if I forgot anything.
Thanks
Steve

Steve,
What are you incubating. If it is corn snakes all you need is a good egg chamber placed in a warm spot in your house. If it is a python or some other egg requiring higher temps then here is a quick description of an incubator. I think a larger taller incubator would work better.
You can put a couple bricks at each end of the aquarium and then fill the aqurium up with water to just below the top brick. Then you can heat the water with an aquarium heater. Place a piece of egg crate(plastic ceiling panel) on the bricks to make a shelf over the water. A plastic tub with a few holes in it can be used as an egg chamber. Put the egg chamber on the shelf and completely cover the top of the aquarium so heat and humidity are locked in. From what I have read from others on this forum some air circulation in the incubator is neccesary if incubating monitors and lizards. An aquarium will not hold heat well and I would reccomend adding foam insulation to the outside or using a cooler. Purchasing a good digital thermometer that has a probe that can be placed in the egg chamber to monitor temps is also a good idea.
