View Full Version : Back in da biz! *pic*
For those who knew me a while ago, you'll know the dive I took in selling off all my T's and moaning and whining about it after. Ah well, s*** happens and I had to. Anyways, long story short, I'm finally a T person again! Started off with a pinktoe I got from SCALES, a retired show T. :D
Then yesterday we drove down to the city and went into a pet store to buy the dogs their food and stuff. Well, lo and behold, they had a C. paganus (Thai Tiger) there. Lucky for me, Katt had brought down an extra of our jungle corns (last of our '03 babies). A quick trade and some begging and pleading, came back home with this beaut!

sweet though I know them as Asian Chevrons , I have been thinking about a thorelli as a late christmas present for myself
Yea Asian Chevrons are another common name. The Cyriopagopus ssp are crazy T's. This one is much tamer that I expected. Although most places I've read say that they have a moment of tolerance and then all of a sudden spaz out! Fast and fiesty! Oooh baby!
Nice to hear you are back at it Vanan... now, which one will be your next? LOL
BTW... this species is now referred as Haplopelma "longepidum", awaiting official description... Cyriopagopus paganus should not be used anymore if you want to keep up to date in taxonomy progress...
Raverend... the species you are referring to is Cyriopagopus schioedtei... as it happens very often, it was found that what was sold as C. thorelli in the hobby was in fact C. schioedtei...
Vanan, sometimes spiders are so badly kept in pet stores that they do not exhibit their normal behavior... just give your new baby a little time at optimal conditions and it should become the mean machine that it is suppose to be... this is normally a very agressive species, a lot more then H. lividum for exemple...
I find Haplopelma spp. to be really unpredictible... one second they look rather calm, almost docile... the next one they become the most agressive bugs... just watch your fingers... the only time in ten years I was extremely close to be bitten is with a Haplopelma lividum that I "trusted" too much...
Tarcan! What words of wisdom and truth! I just got back from almost being tagged in the fingers by that demonic thing!!! She must have warmed up real nice in the herp room as she was sure as hell exhibiting the behaviours you mentioned! Wooo!!! Tried feeding her a pink with a 5" tweezer! Her fangs came within an inch range! Heard her fangs scrape the metal tweezers! Damn! Guess this is gonna be a fun one!
Thanks for the update on the taxonomy too mate! And btw, I'm not sure what species is next on my list. Whatever comes my way I guess. What do you have to offer Martin? ;) lol! Might pick up a rosy from a friend too. Hey who cares, it's still a T! I'll take anything which comes my way! lol!
Beautiful T, Congrats on the new addition!
Vanan, I love Grammostola rosea... very nice choice... even if I have over 140 different species at home, I still keep 6 mature females and growing immature males and spiderlings...
And have fun with your Asian, I had an eggsac two years ago... the males from that clutch are now mature and I am working on mating my females... so far one female ate a male!LOL
This is an underrated species around here because there is one pet shop that usually imports loads of them... captive specimens are really beautiful compared to the sometimes beaten up WC exported from Viet Nam...
Do not forget to let her dig, nice deep substrate will make your animal really happy and a lot calmer...
Thanks for your reply man! I was thinking about the deep substrate thing. Have her in a critter keeper now with about 3" of substrate. She's obviously not happy enough as she's clining to the sides. Will get a deeper enclosure. Do you think it's necessary for me to pre-dig a hole. Saw a post on the other site showing a man made burrow. Think she'd go for it?
She keeps making me look like an idiot! Now I went and checked her just after posting the last post and I find that through teh night she's actually burrowed. Dunno if it's deep enough for her or not. Was just about to go out to the grocery store to find those tall tupperware for her. Dya think 3"-4" is deep enough. I doubt it, but just wondering if it would buy me some time at least.
Here's the entrance in the RHS.

And this is her covered by condensation on the plastic. :D

Well, she seems to have been able to completely burrow, so it sounds OK to me...
It is also good news to me that your animal burrowed so soon, it is relatively rare... so it is great, it will nicely calm down in it's burrow, you could not ask for better...
Ah, thanks! Sets me at ease a lil. Someone recommended a lil less than 8". Maybe I'll give her a while to settle in before transplanting her into a taller enclosure.
