For the laws, I do not know. However to find what you want to know on Specs, there's been several very good posts alot of people have done that covers these guys. Go to the search engine of this fourm and type in Caiman. All caimen have the same basic care, so dont worry on that. Xain

Crocodilians of all types are banned in TO, as are all lizards capable of exceeding 2 meters.
I think you MIGHT be able to have caimans, just not crocodiles and alligators, that's the way it is in Ottawa.
672/// That the way it WAS in Ottawa.. Not anymore.. the bylaw change a good 6 month ago ..
These OUR (Ottawa) bylaws
ALL crocodillians are illegal to keep .. any lizard exceeding ADULT sixe over 1 meter are illegle.. (excluding the varanus exanthematicus) ..
Boas and pythons are now legal as long as the ADULT size does not exceed 2 meters and any snake attaining over 3 meters adults size is illegle as well ..
All venemous illegle
All tutles illegle to keep unless you have permits and the whole iguanidae familly is illegle as well (stupid I know but its to stop the petstore from selling iguanas) ..
all tarantuas illeagle too except rosie and pik toes.. Sxorpions are illegle too now..
theres a few more but that the basic for our sities.. and remember .. there only bylaws.. Its easy to avoif them ;)

scorpions are illegal!? wut the......!!! Are curly hair tarantulas legal?
Thanks,
Ben
Ya those bylaws are crap, half of pet shops sell iguanas, scorps, and T's, though they usually are pinks and rosies. They sell boas and stuff like that too in some stores... oh and by the way I know you work at little ray's and I was wondering if you guys try and breed ALL your reptiles...? If so, do you breed BPs, and how much is it cost-wise to acquire them from you guys. And out of interest, are you breeding the huge retic? Finally, where do you get all mice, rats, guinea pigs etc. (sorry 'bout the off topic)

i believe pet shops and zoos are exempt to bylaws...
correct me if i am wrong though.
Of course zoos are exempt, but not pet shops, they SELL it to people who are the ones who illegally own them. Pet shops are probably allowed to have the animals on display, but not for sale.

A pet store selling illegal animals? NO!! Say it isn't so. A pet store would never sell animals without informing the buyer of possible bylaws or future size of the animal. That would be just wrong, tell me this doesn't happen. <-----'sarcasim'

I work at a petstore and we tried to get permits for a caiman in the store, but apparently theres no way we can because of the bylaw....Zoo's definately can keep anything, but not petstores.

personally the bylaws in Ottawa are awsome because I am sick of seeing people that neglect their animals here and or just impulse buy because they see one on TV. I know that it is not fair to the responsible keepers but what else can they do.
