hey everyone, i was just wondering what would be better for my little royal, rabbits or rats? i know rats are nice and meaty and have heard many different things about rabbits.....such as, they are very fatty which can lead to health problems, and the other side of the scale.....they are healthier than rats. if you could help me with this that would be great.
thnx,

I know that if I had access to rabbits and my balls would take them I would feed rabbits to my balls. Rabbits are great for boas so why not balls. Also I would imagine since you are feeding a better food you could feed less often and still give them all the nutrision they need.
I do breed my own mice and rats and I may expend into rabbits next year. If ever you have to sell your ball and it is hooked on bunnies you may have a hard time to sell it.
Cheers,

I don’t have any opinion, really, about which prey item is healthier for a ball python, a rabbit or a rat. No feeding studies have ever been done. Just thought I’d clear up one error where you say that rabbits “are very fatty which can lead to health problems.” In fact, rabbit (the “other” white meat, don’t you know) is quite low in fat and high in protein. One advantage of raising rabbits instead of rats is that you as well as your snake could partake of your bunny output.
