Here's a pic of my male and female adult Appala's. The first is the female who really shows why they are also called Blotched kings.

And the male Fabio, who shows the patternles phase of this subspecies of getulus. The patternless phase occurs only in males.

Not too common in Canada, which is a shame. The babies are gorgeous firey orange, despite losing this colour, I think they look neat as adults and get to such a nice thick heft to them. Definitely a king's king.
Some "blotched's" show somewhat stripey and abberant patterns. I hope the babies I get from these two have some of that going on.
