i there any way you can tell if a het for albino actually carries the gene just buy looking i thought i heared that you can by the speakling on them ? is this right or is there no way other then blood work

no way you have to breed em out to see
breed it to an albino if you get albino's you have a het if all normal it was normal but the off spring will all be hets

I don't know for sure, but from what I've read, the only way to tell is to breed it out.

Tell by the speckling?!?!?!?!?! That's the silliest thing I've ever heard.

Are you talking about 66% possible hets, or 50% possible hets? Or are the boas 100% hets? If they are result of breeding a normal to an albino, all of the babies are 100% het, and thus carry the gene.

They are right ...breeding it out.....do it yourself....lol

lets say it is an albino breed to a normal will all the boas be 100 % or will they be half normal or what

Yes an albino bred to a normal will produce 100% hets.

will then be all 100% though or not

yes if an albino is bred to a normal they will ALL be 100% hets.

so if i breed 2 100% het for albinos what will i get all albino or a ratio of normal hets and albinos? i took this along time ago in biology but i cant remeber

HetForHuman

as far as i remember you should get 33.3% albinos, 33.3% 100%het albinos, and 33.3% normals.

This is where the 66% hets would come from because 66.6% of them would be all normal looking and you could not tell the normals from the hets.

You're incorrect on that one, Tim. You'd get 25% Normals, 50% would be 100% het, and 25% would be albino.

Peter Kahl has charts in his Genetics section. Check out the Punnett Squares, that will show you how the genes combine. www.pkreptiles.com

There are some great sites for Boa Genetics..don't listen to us..lol...www.newenglandreptile.com....these guys know best
Read and learn what all these things mean...cool....have fun...it is not that hard just confusing sometimes

best book for you to read is a book by an author named love.....its the cornsnake manual....almost anything cool when it comes to morphs have been done first on cornsnakes....read it ...this book is in plain english...not too scientific....and its about snakes....so it right on point (alot of genetics books talk about pea plants..boring as ****. get this book.

i thought you couldnt take corn snake genetics into the boa area

if you can tell me how do i get a blizzard boa?

or a candy cane boa?

i asked the snake keeper @ the toronto (metro)zoo about this a couple years ago and he said they are 2 different things

feel free to correct me if im wrong here

bits like asking how do you get an albino.....i'm sure you can do the genetics to figure out how..but you need one basic ingredient ...an anmial that is caring the recessive gene....its not a cross of two recessive genes....
it must first be found in nature....that is why a ball python went for plus $80000 for a lusistic ball python.....it was the only one....but that morph has been around in rat snakes for years...same idea with a canycane is a double recessive gene..albino or Amelanistic and recessive gene for pattern.....Blizards are Anerythristic 'B' x Amelanistic ...the book i mention will teach you all this and more......

but we can't play God - we have to work with what is out there..these are scientific laws..doen't mater if we talk about boas..cornsnakes...monkeys or pea plants........ so for now no blizards or candycanes when it comes to boids........heres hoping
