i have a full grown adult female, but my babies seem to be getting bulges, so i am guessing they are males. at least one is. How big should he be to breed with the female? i know that if the size difference is too big, that the female could go after the male. So how close in size should they be? i know i have a few months to wait, anyway.

Nevermind, i just read thru the book and the males should be the same size as the females.

Males don't get quite as heavy bodied as females, but they do get close. If the bulge isn't pretty big, I'd wait.

What do you keep them in? I've always been fascinated with them, but you never hear of anyone keeping them.

I keep insectivorous bats, which are much smaller and less messy than fruit bats. you cannot keep them without being a rehabber. Fruit bats you can get a speciall permit. I have a 4 foot wide cage that my husband made, it has screen lining the entire cage for them to climb and pouches for them to hide in. they eat mealworms and blended food made of mealworms and special vitamins, etc..

Hi i just thought i would mention that you will know when the male is ready to breed as he will lick himself and i have noticed that until that happens males are quite compatable together however tails can suddenly go flying when you thrw a girl in the mix.
