It measures 7' x 11' x 8' high.

Cost around $800 in materials, a set up 50 gallon aquarium for the friend who helped, and $100 in rum.

We framed in the shelving glass peices with 2x4's and 2x2's. It wasn't meant to be cheap, but strong.

We are now wondering what we should get to put in there.

Any suggestions on what you would put in it if it were your cage is very welcome. We are all ears!

an iguana? maybe a scrub python? thats a huge cage!! looks great too. you could easily find some sort of monitor to fill it up

I suggest me. I don't mind being put on display as long as I get to eat for free and am warm.

how about a lemeur?

I have a salvator water monitor, he used to be housed where that cage is now built. The wood is thick, as thick as most peoples legs - much thick enough for any monitor.

Also have a nile monitor, they become more terrestrial as they get older.

To put an iguana in there would epitomize the term "waste of good wood" in my opinion.

We've thought about big scrubs, they could look really cool.

We were offered zooboomafoos lemur when it became pregnant but declined. It would work, but i'm not into keeping primates - and wouldn't keep a live mammal down at the reptile house.

I like the suggestions so far - we want it to be something really cool. What would you, as a reptile keeper, like to see in such a large cage if you came for a visit.

Money is no object - whatsoever!
o.k, I've just always wanted to say that :)

Vanan's on the same page as me, although Maiden's got a good point about the scrubby, but I think they prefer a more terrestrial lifestyle as they mature, don't they?

You could always spring for that leucistic nile, I hear his price has dropped below half a mill. *snicker, snort, giggle*
WhutEVer...

Tell you what, Ryan, Get another $100 worth of rum and you and I can sit in the cage and start drankin'. I'll bet by the time we reach the $80 mark we'll make a fine display! Ok, maybe just a spectacle, but that's a start isn't it? Send Sheila to the vendors for more and we can call it a retained spectacle!

Give me a break people, I ran out of beer an hour ago and am on my third double rye. I'm just warmin' up!

2 male crested geckos and 1000 females... im sure they would be quite pleased with the ratio :D I know I would. but since that I dont think you want to do. A nice big retic would rock

Retics seem to be winning - I think I will buy one!

Normal Albino, or Lavender Albino?

I personally would go for a HUGE rock .. like a 200 pound one .. in my opinion there much more impressive then a large retic.. but if you gotta go for a retic.. gor for a super tiger or even a tiger would be nice..

I know CB wolf breeding in BC (someting like that)was selling a HUGE rock some time ago .

(don't think u could find a large albino retic to fill that cage.. it would be such a waste of space..

Check you email too - i send u a few fugg. a few days ago.

Let us know what u will be doing..

I vote for retics, but I am biased. If it's a retic, let it be lavender albino!

Invictus

That is a super awesome cage, but wouldn't the height be wasted on a retic?

Katt
11-29-03, 05:12 PM
Retics are arboreal!

I think the crested idea is pretty neat actually.

Invictus

I thought they became more terrestrial as they got older. I guess not then. :)

I beleive they do become more terrestrial as they get older.

If we are going to put a retic or 2 in there - we will build some shelves around the outside, put some more logs, but thicker logs in there. Maybe even a vertical pole thing - it is cool to watch them climb up those.

It has been my experience, that giant snakes have a much more interesting way of climbing than smaller snakes. A big retic will make use of the height in my opinion - expecially if we make a few modifications.

I dont know what there called but they have on at reptilia near my house...its black with gold on the back and a large fin on the back and head...REALLY cool and the enclosure is very similar in size...you could probably even get two of them..i dont know anything about them though :) Anyone know what im talking about?

i have two 15-16 FT retics and they'll climb every chance they get.

1.2 Jobiensis or Doreanus!

Either would look so good, they make such impressive display animals. And a cage that size, you wouldn't be able to stop the breeding!

Boelen's were mentioned to me, but he didn't want to donate his.

I'm so glad morph and impermanantrage offered, we appreciate the donation! :)

And thanks to everyone who commented on the enclosure. It was mostly fun to build, punches were excanged, there were injuries, and much bad language - you should have seen the look on Curtis's face when I told him we were modifying it for a retic.

Someday I'll have a cage like that for boelens - but not in 2003.
