thinkin of a new snake

I am thinking about getting another snake just wordering what people think would be a better choice, another burm or a retic?:confused:

well it really depends what ur into. do u currently have a burm? cuz your signiture says 0.0 albino burm. so uless u ment 1.1, 1.0 or 0.1 it means you have 0 burms. I really love burms because they are a very hardy and gental snake but as you know that dosent mean a retic cant be the same, unless u want to do some kind of burm breeding project i would go for the retic.

I don't think you could go wrong going with either a burm or retic. I keep both and would recommend either of them.

Retics are a little more unpredictable than burms. If this is your first large snake go with a burm. You really can't go wrong with them. Retics tend to be very aggressive and most get much bigger than burms, unless you go with a dwarf... which would be my first choice. If this is your first ever snake (looking at your signature), don't get either. These snakes are not a good choice for a beginner. They get huge, tend to eat a whole lot which costs a tun, need big enclosures (which means they take up a lot of space), and crap a ton!! If I were you I would spend the extra money and go with a dwarf retic, jampea maybe... they still can get big, around 8 - 14 feet. Burms are very nice snakes, though, so if you're looking for a nice lazy, giant, couch potato go with one of those.

they are really unpredictable, I've been bitten by a 10 footer, alot more pain than a burm!!!!!!! it's up to you.

I have to disagree with you on that Retics are more unpredictable than Burms. I have had both and can say that my Retics are just as calm as my burms. I will also say that I have interacted with them both quite often and that makes a big difference. Remember I said my Retics not all Retics. Oh I'm not to start any trouble just my opinion.

I think it depends more so on the locality of the retic. Of course CB ones are going to be a lot more calm than WC ones. But take a sulawesi for example... way more unpredictable than a burm, and a lot more aggressive.

I Normaly love to here what ppl have to say but I hate seeing regurgated useles info.

Retic's are not the monsters ppl Make them out to be. They are actualy quite placide animals ppl here in Canada are just to narrow minded there are ppl in the states that have them and they are just a easy to work with as burms. (Diffrent basic husbendry info but rather close.)

Sure they are a tad bit on the smarter side witch seems to make the regular herper nervouse in turn the Retic gets more deffensive so now it is all there fault that they are "aggressive".

A baby retic is almost exactly like any other baby snake aware of it's suroundings and ready to take on the world I have seen baby corn snakes with 10 times the attitude of any adult Suluwasie Retic.

PPl just seem to dismis it and say ahh it will grow out of it and it will stay small so they could not care less.

Retic's are similare they will take a chunck out of you till they reach a good 2-4 feet depending on your interaction.

the difrence is burms loose almost total interest in you when they scratch you off of there danger list they are virtualy harmles (Don't go wrestling with it on feeding day but you get the Idea.)
In time Retic's too will scratch you off there danger list but will alwase have a interest in your presence simply to insure there safety.

My baby retic does not hisss no longer strikes he is a whole 2.5 feet long but every time I walk in my Herp room he stares me down now if I want to handel him I just open the cage and reach in and cup him (with my hand) and slide him out onto my other hand and there you have it. Some one els could try but would be afraid Because it is THE DREADED RETIC and they would hesitate and in turn the snake would strike cause if you have no confidence in your abilitys as a reptile handeler why sholud the snake have confedence that you will not hurt it.
(simple and stupide medafore on my behalf) Snakes are not smart enugh to make such decisions but they can work with the basics you fear them they fear you and fight all attempt coming from you to try and "Harm" them.

wethere it be a baby corn a baby Burm a Baby Retic you need a healthy balance with the amount of time it see's you around it, you handeling it and the snake just plain and simply being left alone in it's cage in a no trafic part of the house.

YES a retic is unpredictable but so is the 30 year old Ball python that skits on it's life long keeper. all snakes NO all herps should never be trusted.

I personaly love Retic's so I am a rather byas on the topic but you seem like a person that wants nothing but the best.

take a good 2-4 weeks with internet reserch then buy a few python books to learn the husbandry requierments dont go on there temperment discription because 90% of the animals thows discription are based on are W/C after that take into consideration feeding and cageing and when all is said and done Pm me any Q's? you might have about any unsertenties If I can not answer your question I will find some one that can.

Oh ya seeing your SING I am guessing you ment 0.0.1 Burms considering you said another burm in your first post I might be wrong

How about an afrock. If you have burms and or retics. Why not find yourself a CBB afrock. They can be just like other large snakes. Realitively "tame".

I was actually looking into buying a retic or an african rock python... still deciding, i might end up getting both :p

What is your previous snake experience?? Retics are defanately not great second snakes. They are huge snakes with killer feeding responces and a razor edge on there rather large teeth. Not something to jump into to quickly and take lightly

if you already own a burm, and you've owned it for a while, and the burm is healthy, it might be a safe assumption that you can handle a rectic. those are all assumptions, though...i don't know your actual situation.

having never owned either a burm or a rectic, take my advice with a grain of salt, but I'd go for the rectic. you already have a burm, and unless you plan on breeding them, why get two?
